FROM ETHEL
Ethel United Church held its
church supper on Sunday. I asked
Beth Earl approximately how many
people came out for dinner and she
estimated about 460.
Along with the cakes and
cheesecakes, approximately 80 pies
were consumed! Thanks to everyone
involved in making this such a
community event.
May 14 marks the centennial
anniversary of the Huron East
District -Women's Institute. The
celebration will be held at the Ethel •
COmMunity Centre. Although Ethel
no,Hletiger has a chapter of the
Women tflnstitute, I would like to
heat ,groat any past members about
the group and its involvement in the
community so that I may write about
it in this column. Please give me a
call.
Grey Twp. firefighters responded
to an emergency accident call at a
local lumber grading operation. One
person was injured.
Ethel ball registration has taken
place for another year. Jane Stewart
explained that registration is down a
bit with Ethel having three teams this
year. There is also a first-time
women's slowpitch team this year in
Ethel.
Jane was enthusiastic that the
spring ball tournament is filling up
fast — without any advertising.
Let the games begin!
As. my infant daughter cries and
my youngest son attempts to break
down the locked den door, I would
like to end by wishing all the
amazing women out there a
wonderful Mother's Day.
I am often reminded of a story that
has a mother visited by a wealthy
and coiffed acquaintance, lavishly
adorned with furs and expensive
jewellery. The mother listens to the
other woman as she admires the
large, shiny rock on her finger and
with a loving smile she outstretches
her arms toward her children and
replies, "These are my jewels."
Enjoy your week.

Mmm!
After partaking of the delicious home-cooked ham dinner at
Grey Central school on Sunday, Jolanda Smith dug into
dessert. The event was sponsored by Ethel United Church.

On May 3 at 2 p.m. Huren OPP
were contacted by art employee of
Radford's Gravel Pit over an
abandoned vehicle irr the pond
located on Beechwood Road in
McKillop Two.
Officers found that someone had
deliberately driven a stolen 1995
Plymouth Voyageur van into the
pond leaving it submerged in
several feet of water. The vehicle
had been reported stolen from
Seaforth on May 2 and when
removed from the water was found
with several sections of the van
vandalized.
The investigation continues on
the case and any information that
the public can provide in finding the
people responsible would be
appreciated.
Call the local OPP or Crime
Stoppers.
