By David Blaney Citizen staff Local residents have always enjoyed a good party and a new store in Brussels intends to make it easier to do than ever. Sisters, Laurie Coultes and Tanya McArter, opened Entertaining Essentials on Turnberry Street to take the panic out of party prepara- tions. Coultes says they are prepared to organize everything from a child's birthday party to a wedding. McArter has been baking personal,- ized cakes out of her home for a year and a half and the store was a natural answer to requests for other types of party preparation help. McArter said, "with six kids between us we know what problems kid's parties can present." She said the business grew out of the fact that locally, there was no one place where people could go to get all types of party supplies. Although the store features items needed for children's parties both Coultes and McArter emphasized the Calling all country music fans! Country music and Canadian pride will fill Blyth Memorial Hail when the I Love You Canada Tour featuring Larry Mercey, Marie Bottrell, Don Vair and Country Clem comes to the Blyth stage. The show begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday May 4. Tickets are $25 each and $8 for the soup kitchen prior to the event. The soup kitchen is a unique event that features a variety of soups from local participants in a friendly competition. The ticket price includes a choice of soups, fresh rolls and desserts. It's a menu that is sure to please. Mercey began his career on the CKNX Barn Dance. He then formed the group The ,Mercey Brothers who were recently induct- ed into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and in their career won five Juno Awards. Since beginning his solo- career in early 1990,, Mercey has received numer- ous Juno Nominations for Country Male Vocalist and Canadian Country Music Association Nomination for Country Male Vocalist of the Year. Bottrell hails from London and is an icon of Canadian country music, with five very successful albums to her credit. Her popularity garnered numerous international television appearances, including The Tommy Hunter Show, Nashville Now, The Joan Kennedy Show and Star fact they are equipped for adult ot_ca- sions as well. They • have wedding. arches for rent, decorative figures tor wedding cakes and can arrange your tent rental if you are having a back= yard celebration. Although the store took only three weeks to renovate the business has been in the works for much longer. The women took time to get opinions and ideas from many sources. Coultes said, "we particularly want to thank Ruth Baxter of Mrs. B's Baskets for her help and advice." Coultes commented, "we are try- ing to go with a lot of personalized items." With this in mind they have developed contacts with a number businesses which provide individual- ized service. One of these individuals is Heather Somers, a graphic artist formerly of Brussels. Somers can provide indi- vidualized cards for any occasion featuring anything from a favourite photo to a one-of-a-kind design. They have also prepared a list of contacts which they feel provide good service at a reasonable cost for everything from formal and bridal Parade. Marie headlined two suc- cessful seasons of A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline and appeared in the productions Canadian Cafe and Lovin, Lyin' and Leavin'. Vair is scheduled to emcee the evening, and will also perform as Country Clem, a familiar face to many around the area. Clem's act includes stand-up comedy with a song or two accompanied by guitar or piano. They expect to add more stock as the busi- ness grows. McArter said, "We will be adding more things as we find out what customers want." Both Coultes and McArter are looking to expand their range of services. Photography, clowning and event decorating are all part of their plans. Coultes commented, "Everyone has an occasion and we are trying to make them memo- rable."
