Congratulations to Jess Carbone and

discovering some wonderful stories
and some great Canadian authors.
The class would recommend
participating in the Silver Birch
program through the Brussels Public
Library for all Grade 4, 5 and 6
students who are not involved in the
Silver Birch program at school.
As a part of their reading, the
Grade 6s have been creating plot
diagrams, writing letters to Silver
Birch authors, making posters
advertising their favourite books and
using a computer program called
Inspiration to create plot circles.
To demonstrate their
comprehension of the books. they
have been reading, the Grade 6
students have been using the
Accelerated Reader, a computer
program that tests students on each
book they have read. This week,
everyone has taken at least one test
on a Silver Birch book they have
read, and some students have elected
to test themselves on up to seven
books.
