The staff and students at Grey would like to join Mrs. McDowell in thanking the ladies who helped make the Easter dinner. It was delicious! Happy Easter, everyone! Mrs. Bowler's kindergarten class enjoyed their Easter activities and were excited about the Easter Bunny's visit. Th,ey did windmill art, and learned the letter "W". Id -Mrs. Scott's class, they made bunny baskets, little chickens and painted Easter eggs. They also learned the song Here Comes Peter Cottontail. On Tuesday, the kindergartens had Portfolio Night. In Miss Hill's class, the Grade Is did a lot of Easter activities like Easter math and colouring Easter pictures. They are learning Easter words and making animal riddles. This week Mr. Park's class is learning about shapes in math. In art, they are making an Easter booklet. Mr. Park's class enjoyed Crazy Hair Day on Thursday, particularly Mr. Park's hairdo. Mrs. Murray's Grade 4 class went swimming on Tuesday. They have started their social studies project, where they each have a province that they have to research and present. Also, this past week was Cole's 10th birthday. Mr. Walker's Grade 4/5 class have decided to do a Greek play. In it, they are going to be wearing masks! On Wacky Hair Day, Mr. Walker dyed his hair blue and-purple. Paige, Tori and Rebecca are the winners for Wacky Hair Day. His class is -doing I hope' everyone had a wonderful weekend - the warm weather saw many people out and about in Ethel. The community expresses our sympathy to the family of Mr Bob Easter (Vicky square dancing in gym. They are also doing patterning in math. Congratulations to Jess Carbone and Tanya Bechard for reading all 10 Silver Birch books already, and to all of the Grade 6 students who have been meeting the reading goals they have set for themselves. While they are "working hard" to achieve their short and long-term reading goals, they are also enjoying their books. Through their participation in the Silver Birch program, students are discovering some wonderful stories and some great Canadian authors. The class would recommend participating in the Silver Birch program through the Brussels Public Library for all Grade 4, 5 and 6 students who are not involved in the Silver Birch program at school. As a part of their reading, the Grade 6s have been creating plot diagrams, writing letters to Silver Birch authors, making posters advertising their favourite books and using a computer program called Inspiration to create plot circles. To demonstrate their comprehension of the books. they have been reading, the Grade 6 students have been using the Accelerated Reader, a computer program that tests students on each book they have read. This week, everyone has taken at least one test on a Silver Birch book they have read, and some students have elected to test themselves on up to seven books. Bateman. An open house was held at the Grey Twp. fireball this past week. The open house was intended to give the community an opportunity to check out the firehall and also discuss such things as the jaws of life with Fire Chief Calvin Semple and Deputy Fire Chief Dave Diehl. Thanks to all who came out. (Did anyone suggest buying new shirts -for the guys??) Mrs. Joyce Alexander had some fun stories to tell about their recent trip to Arizona. Apparently, the weather wasn't great but the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon was. Welcome back., Jason Shortreed was a guest at Hullett Central Public School in Londesboro. Kathy Huether who had been helping teach basketball skills to the Grade 4 class also knew that they had been reading a book on handicapped people in sports, particularly basketball. Kathy, having known that Jason has been involved in wheelchair basketball in Kitchener, invited him to attend the wrap-up session with the class. Jason and Kathy demonstrated dribbling. They then- had a game against some of the children in the class and Jason and Kathy won. The Grade 4 class was impressed and learned a new understanding and appreciation of what a disabled person is able to do. They had a chance to speak with Jason and ask questions. Jascn is involved with the Twin City Spinners team in Kitchener. They play on Thursday evenings and have games against other centres including teams from Toronto and Burlington. He has been involved in basketball for seven years — first with the Junior team and now the adult team. The Walton Little School was busy last week learning about Easter. They learned how to dye Easter eggs and learned Easter songs. In science class they are growing grass. The letter V was studied as well last week. Providing musical entertainment on Wednesday afternoon was Phyllis -and Jamie Mitchell, who came and played the violin for the students' enjoyment. There were lots of visitors to Walton for the Easter weekend. Home to visit Campbell and Edith Wey were daughters Debbie Wey from Port Colborne and Dena Kale from Cochrane, Alberta. Also there were sone Doug, Heidi, Tess and Duncan Wey from Guelph. Visiting as well, was Karla Kale's friend Magali from Lebanon, New Jersey. Murray and Olene Dennis were pleased to have their family home for Easter. Daughter Peggy and husband John Wakabayashi and Natalie and Adrienne from London arrived as well as daughter Laura, with Dan and Adam from Goderich. Daughter Elaine and husband Steven Grosvenor and Kevin were on hand from Parkhill as of course was son Steve. The McGavin family all gathered at the home of Jeff and Shannon, Jacob, Mackenzie and Teagan McGavin after church to celebrate Easter. Attending were Pat and Cathy, Brent, Alex and Shayna Melady, Brian and Shelley, Brandon, Abby and Tyson McGavin and Brian, Heather, Hayden and Jessica Kelso and Neil and Marie McGavin. Joan Tuchlinsky and Brian Black were pleased to have all their family together for Easter. Daughter Jennifer and friend Chad Spaulding and son Steven from Kitchener joined Jeffrey, Bethany and Laura for a family time on this Easter weekend. Joining Emmerson and Phyllis Mitchell for Easter dinner were family members Gord, Julia and Doug Mitchell, Doug, Janet, Rob, Mandy and Jamie Mitchell Neil, Marie, Sean, Sarah and Emily Mitchell. Also attending was Marie's mom and dad, Bill and 1 aura Barbour of Bayfield. Another full house for Easter was the home of Laverne and Marion Godkin. Joining in the Easter celebration were Bruce, Katrin, Mitchell and Lucas Godkin, Ron, Lynn, Scott, Kelly Godkin, Donna and husband Cameron and Reagan and. Sharon Godkin. Visiting with Ross and Marg Bennett was son Peter, Luanne and Emily from Collin-gwood. Joining them was also daughter Nanci, Greg, Evan and Danielle Ducharme from Brussels. Mary Humphiles had a houseful with her family home. Bob and Nora, Jim, Chris and friend Sarah from London, Mike, Kathy, Holly, Shane and Mitchell from Goderich and Kim, George, Andrew and Bryce from Bayfield joined her Sunday for Easter dinner. Gathering at the home of Kelly and Sharon Dalton were sisters, Dianne and Paul McCallum and family; Colleen and Kenny, Chris, Cindy and Lauren Poland; sister Donna and Stan McClure and family; Tina, Rob and Trisha; mother Mabel Willis and children Jamie and Kelly Ann. Away to the States to visit his sister Sherrill and husband Robert Christian, were Graeme and Helen, Michael and Shannon Craig. They were .to Ocean City, Delaware, U.S.A. approximately 1,300 mile drive. they left Thursday and returned home on Monday evening after a nice weekend. Going away for Easter celebrations were Doug and Marjorie Fraser. • They were to daughter Cheryl's and husband Glenn and sons Garrett and Lucas in Hespeler. Also joining them on Friday were other family members Dianne and Phil, and Carolyn and Gerry, Mark and Craig. Doug's sister Iva and family from Bramalea joined them as well. Rick and Jo-Ann, Kelly and friend Kevin and Scott Mcdonald travelled to Mitchell to join other' family members for Easter dinner. Sunday afternoon at Jo-Ann's mothers. Away for six days was Matthew Shortreed as he travelled with the defending national juvenile broomball champions, the Seaforth Hitmen. He is a coach with the team and they went to Winnipeg, Manitoba for the championship games. The players are from Seaforth and Blyth and surrounding area. They won the consolation gold in the B Division. They defeated the Ottawa Ice Dogs 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Altogether the team won five of seven games Ifitayed. They returned home Sunday evening. Congratulations team. Congratulations to the Brussels PeeWees on being the OMHA champions. They won the series in three straight games against Desoronto. What an exciting accomplishment for the team and the Walton-area boys on the team. Congratulations. In hospital this past week was Judy Lee but she has returned home and is recovering nicely from surgery. Mrs. Idella Hubley is in Stratford hospital following surgery and hopes to be returning to Seaforth hospital soon. Mrs. Viola Traviss is still in Seaforth hospital and is coming along. Returning home from Florida on the weekend was Bob and Dorothy Dalton. Just in time to celebrate Bob's 75th birthday on April Fool's Day. Mr. Bugler has returned from this trip overseas to the Walton Inn. Celebrating birthdays this past week were Bob Axtmann, Ken Dalton, Murray Crich, Andrea Gingerich, Janet Bachert, Robin McCall, Becky Laverty, Judy Shortreed, Heidi Wey, Nicole Williamson, Lucas Beisinger, Bob Ryan, Linda Ax imam), Brandi Banks, Matt Lee, Pam Carter and Bob Dalton. ' Congratulations to all of them. FROM WALTON Good crowd at Maundy Thursday service Duff's United Church held two services this week, the first being Maundy Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m. A good crowd attended. The meal, included soup and bread. This was followed by communion. A dramatic portrayal of the washing of the feet was enacted by Joan Tuchlinsky and Glenda Morrison. The sanctuary was stripped of all its adornments and the service of shadows followed. Taking part in the readings were Evelyn Gulutzen, Justin and Lucas, Marion Godkin, Pearl McCallum, Gloria Wilbee, Kathleen Williamson, Brian Black, Bethany and Laura Black. The' service ended with Brian Black singing Judas' Theme and the congregation exited in silence. Easter Sunday service -saw many members and their extended families k attend and, enjoy the service. They were welcomed by Neil and Marie McGavin. Taking part in the opening Easter story, adapted from Matthew 2S, was Marie McGavin, Dianne McCallum, Teresa Baan, Marian Godkin, Evelyn Gulutzen, and Jeff McGavin. They told the story of the empty tomb and Jesus' resurrection. Following the opening prayers the junior youth choir sang Every Morning is Easter Morning. Readings from the books of Acts and Colossians by Marion Godkin were followed by the senior choir anthem. The children were called to the front of• the church. Rev. Joan's reflection was on the resurrection and how new life comes out of the darkness. From Jesus being crucified and then rising from the dead he brought new hope to all people. The offering was taken up by Darrel McClure and Neil McGavin. The ushers for the month of April are Ross Bennett, Geoffrey Banks and Doug Fraser. Greeters next week are Laverne and Marion Godkin. The WUCC meeting is tonight, Wednesday, April 3 at 8 p.m. guest speaker is Leanne Crawford, master gardner from Huron Landscaping. Bring questions and problem plants and maybe she can help. Sunday, April 21 will be-baptism.
