Brussels Local League Atoms
played their final series of the year
against Hanover. The two out of
three series went to a third game
with the locals suffering a 3-2 loss.
The series did not get off to a good
start for the boys from Brussels
when their hosts scored four times in
the first period of their initial
meeting. Brussels struggled hard to
come back with Taylor Prior scoring
two in the second with an assist from
Brendan Stretton.
Tyler Deitner scored in the third
period with a helper from Joel
Wilkinson, but Hanover slipped two
into the Brussels net to end up on the
right end of a 6-3 ending.
Play returned to Brussels on
March 25 and the local lads were not
in a giving mood. The first period
ended knotted at one as Deitner got
the first of his three unassisted.
The visitors got the only goal of
the second in what was a very close
20 minutes of play. The third period
saw Deitner score his second with an
assist from Stretton to send the game
into overtime.
Overtime play went end to end
until the Deitner/Stretton duo settled
the issue, Deitner scored his third of
the night as he converted Stretton's
pass.
The rubber match was held in
Hanover. After a single from the
home side in the first, the teams
saved their firepower for the last 10
minutes of the game.
Jason Bowman tied the contest for
Brussels when he cashed in a pass
from Prior. A little over a minute
later Hanover took the lead again
only to have Deitner score with the
able assistance of Stretton.
That was all the goals the Brussels
boys could summon up and they
were unable to come back again
when Hanover scored with less than
a minute remaining.
Although they were unable to
defeat Hanover the players are able
to look back over a year of good play
and ended up as the WOAA Atom
Local League, White Finalists,
Central Division.

The Brussels PeeWee Local
League swept Mount Forest in a best
of three WOAA. playoff. With great
passing and good checking the squad
trounced their opponent in this game
March 26 by a score of 10-2.
Brad McKague led the way in the
first period with two goals, while
Adam McClure and Scott Phillips
each scored one. Steven Ropp and
McKague were creditted with
assists. The visitors managed one to
give Brussels a solid 4-1 edge going
into the second period.
McClure increased the lead soon
after play resumed with helpers from
Jordan Campbell and McKague.
Ropp also scored off a play set up by
McKague and Chase Chapman.
Mount Forest managed one more
goal in the third but the Brussels
onslaught continued with four more
added. Ropp finished his hattrick,
while Chapman and McClure each
bulged the twine. Assists went to
McClure, with three, McKague with
two, Ropp, Campbell and Chapman.
