awards to the All-Ontario Blyth Midget champs at the annual
awards banquet. Trainers of this year's team Steve
Bromley and Doug McClinchey were on the Blyth PeeWee
team 30 years ago to capture the All-Ontario title. Their
sons Matt Bromley (pictured) and Ryan McClinchey are
members of the Midgets. Ken Stewart also was a member
of the PeeWee team and his son Cole plays for the Midgets.

FROM BLYTH
Time
capsule
items
needed
As part of the 125th celebrations
Blyth will be putting together a time
capsule to be opened in 2052. The
committee is looking for items
focusing on the last 25 years of
Blyth's development.
Items such as history books and a
video or virtual tour of the village
have been suggested. Other ideas
include school enrolment for 2002,
histories of community groups and
information about businesses past
and present.
Information about municipal
council, the fire department and
cultural and sporting activities are
suggested areas of interest. Personal
family history would also be
welcome.
Memorabilia related to the town,
its people and activities would all
make excellent contributions to be
frozen in time for future generations.
Items will be put on display during
the 125 anniversary celebrations
prior to being sealed in the capsule.
Submissions may be dropped off at
the Canada Post outlet, Quen
Street.Contributors should keep in
mind that items will be unavailable
for return until 2052.

UCW
meeting
The Blyth UCW met in the church
parlour at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March
26 with 15 present.
Lenora Davidson gave the worship
on Good Friday, from an article by
Rev. Robert Wallace, a United
Church minister. The cross
represents sin.
011ie Craig conducted the study,
choosing Teresa of Avila, from the
Middle Ages. Women were starting
to have some influence in the
church, in the patriarchal society of
the time.
Roll call was answered by wearing
a favourite Easter bonnet.
A committee was formed to check
on purchasing a dishwasher for the
church kitchen. Lunch was served by
Marie Toll. and Frances Bearss.

Seniors
plan
bus trip
Blyth Swinging Seniors met at the
Memorial Hall on March 27 with 30
members present. They enjoyed a
potluck dinner.
Following dinner there was a
presentation by Keith Roulston
pertaining to the Blyth mini-
museum project. The idea is to be
able to display some of Blyth's
history in a series of plexiglass-
covered showcase displayed at
various locations i9 the village.
Following the singing of 0
Canada, Happy Birthday was sung
to Erma Mason and Aubrey Toll.
Happy anniversary wishes went to
Lawrence and Jean Plaetzer.
The sing-song was accompanied
by Doris Walker. Arnold Bruce,
Doris Walker, Mary Hehn, and
David Wall entertained the group
with a pleasant time of lively music.
A bus trip, taking the place of the
summer picnic, is planned for Aug.
8, to Petrolia to see a presentation of
Peggy and Grace.
The spring rally is in Dungannon
on April 18. Dungannon Seniors are
invited to Blyth's April 24 meeting.
Share-the-wealth was won by
Isabelle Craig, Erma Mason and
Mary Craig.
Congratulations to Dorothy Riehl,
the winner of the March 29, 125th
Calendar draw. Janet Lawrie is back
to Clinton hospital and our thoughts
are with her as she recovers.
Don't forget the Daffodil Tea on
Thursday, April 4 in the Legion.
It is a sing that spring is coming as
the tundra swans have been feeding
and resting on our farm for the past
few weeks and will soon be moving
on.
Things are happening at the
community centre as work begins on
the renovations to the building.
Good luck to the Blyth Bulldog
Midget team as they travel to
Montreal to participate in the Canada
Cup Tournament. Blyth has won the
tournament in the past.
With summer a time to travel give
me .a call and let me know where you
went and who was visiting at your
place.
Greeting at Blyth United Church on
Easter Sunday -were Lloyd and Donna
Sippel. Ushering were Rob Mason
and Lavern and Ross Clark. Rev.
Eugen Bannerman led the worship.
Margaret Kai was guest musician.
Rev. Bannerman had brought along
some different eggs and had a story to
tell about each of them. He handed
out Easter eggs to all the children.
The gospel Matthew 28: 1-8 was
read by the confirmation class,
Jeremy Kresky, Bethany Kresky,
Stephanie Sanderson, Nicole Meier
and Gordon Brigham.
The choir's cantata was Lord of
Glory by Stan Pethel. As part of the
cantata, Dane Corneil sang a solo. Hp
also sang a duet with his mother Avon
Corneil and Avon and Cheryl Cronin
sang a duet.
Rev. Bannerman and Warren
Moore were the readers.
The choir presented Margaret with
a certificate of appreciation for the
work she had done.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was accounts of the new age
resurrection. He recalled two stories
told by a vicar in the Church of
Wales. A wife had died of cancer and
before she died she used to say after
her treatments, "They have taken
away my horse." After her death the
father took the children on a trip they
had taken every year. They were
walking and saw a horse grazing. He

had never seen a horse in those fields
before or since. The horse came up
and pushed her muzzle over the
fence. It seemed to represent his wife
saying "I've got my horse back and
Fin happy."
His second story was about the loss
of, a .day-old son. One morning the
father saw two.,sheep with two black
lambs in his garden. There had never
been sheep in his garden before or
after.
He realized that it had been 40 days
since the death of the baby and he
remembered the tradition in Eastern
Orthodox Church, that on the 40th
day after death, the soul is set free
from this earth, and enters into a new
relationship with heaven and with
us.
