Easter bonnets
Brooklyn Button doesn't seem the least worried that she
and her doll showed up wearing identical outfits. The two
were attending the annual Easter breakfast at the Melville
Presbyterian Church on Sunday, with Brooklyn's mom, the
former Karla King. (David Blaney photo)

Hurray, Hurray the Easter bunny
came. The weekend was a busy time
as families and friends gathered to
visit, attend church and of course eat.
It was good to see so many old
friends in the village — renewing
contacts and catching up on family
news. Happy Easter!
The United Church folks were
flying high on Easter morning. We
had anthems, trumpets, drums, organ
and piano talent all amid bouquets of
spring flowers and coloured eggs.
Our minister Joan Golden guided our
worship in this most important day
of the Christian year. We also
celebrated as we welcomed Ryan
and Julia to our congregation by
baptism. David and Kandice and
Patty and Jason looked happy as we
admired their children.
The Lenten services held at noon
last week were well attended by
between 25 and 40 people who heard
about the events of Holy Week and
enjoyed lunch together. The
Ministerial Group co-ordinated the
services.
The PeeWees are the new Ontario
champs and I'm sure they were
relieved to do their stuff on Friday
and be able to have a stress-free
weekend. Enjoy your free moments.
Well done!
Hello to the folks at Huronlea. We
missed seeing you ovdr the past few
days and especially at Easter. Hope
the 'sickles' are on the mend and the
doors are opened soon.
I needed a recipe for raisin sauce
for Easter and Alma Watson shared
the wisdom of a 1940 cook book
with me. So in case you need to
make tripe, sweetbreads, headcheese
or any other food item let us know —
it was an enlightening read keeping
in mind it was produced in the midst
of the war. And yes the raisin sauce
recipe was there and it was good!
Bye now, Betty G. W.
At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The. Brussels Legion Branch
began its week with a meeting in the
upstairs auditorium. Brussels Agri
Services held an information
meeting on intensive livestock
grazing with guest speaker Leith
Pemberton, from New Zealand.
Over 100 interested area folks
attended the presentation which
included a slide show on pasturing.
The general meeting was held on
Monday evening as well with
President Glenn Bridge in charge.
It was reported that the fish fry
was very successful.
There are still three unpaid
memberships. there was one new
application °for membership
received.
President Glenn reported that
Branch 218 and Membership
Chairman fohn Harrison received an
award at the zone Convention in
Kincardine for having over 80 per
cent paid membership for 2002, the
highest Branch percentage in the
zone.
The auditorium floor is to be
refinished and it is expected the
work will take a couple of weeks.
A gift basket is being donated to
the Optimist Club-for the auction.
A nominating committee was
formed to find new executive
members.
Comrade Irma Brighton and
Shirley Taylor have both been in
hospital but have returned home.
Our best wishes for improved health
goes to both of them.
The Thursday night darts had a
great crowd out and a lot of fun.
Even a beginner, like me, came in on
the third-place team. Everyone is
always welcome and play starts at 8
p.m.
At Saturday's euchre there were
11 tables of players vying for the
prizes. Coming out on top were
partners Delores Howatt and Hazel
