Mother, daughters greet at United service

March has been a busy month for
the ladies at Londesboro United
Church.
On Friday, March 1, they
entertained guests from Auburn and
Clinton for their annual observance
of the World Day of Prayer. The
Women of Romania, who prepared
this year's service, believe many
voices must be raised over concerns
if they are to be heard. As a result the
service had speaking parts for many

was back home and Ted Fothergill

Public Hospital. Also Willis
Bromley is in hospital suffering
from pneumonia. All these
gentlemen would appreciate your
concern and prayers to aid them
during this season and period of
renewal.
With that in mind the fitting virtue
at Hullett Central School this week
March 24 - 30 is Friendliness. The
supporting quote is a familiar one
which bears repeating. "The best
way to have a friend is to be one."
Greeting churchgoers on Palm
Sunday at Londesboro United
Church were Brenda Snell and
daughters. Receiving the offering
were Blaine and Kelly Marks. The
senior choir anthem was titled
Blessed Is He.
Assisting Rev. Paul Ross with the
Sacrament of Holy Communion were
Brenda Konarski, Brenda Radford,
Dan Allen, Don Goodall, Garnet
Wright and Brian Whyte.
A gold medal was found in the
storybag and the children
acknowledged it honoured
someone's good work. They
suggested . that special trophies,
special days„ awards and parades
were other ways to honour people.
On Palm Sunday, the people of
voices/ladies.
Romania is still adapting to
democracy and_the service was a call
to overcome differences and
difficulties and live harmoniously.
Four women in colourful head
scarves were the voices or Romanian
women.
The scripture from Samuel was the
story of how Abigail made peace

The ladies of the Cheerio Club
enjoyed an Easter ham dinner at
Tom's Restaurant and General Store
on Wednesday, March 20. Then they
were welcomed to the home of
Phyllis Potter.
Mary East opened the meeting
with a poem titled, To Laugh Often
Jesus' time gave Him a parade into
Jerusalem. The last pink candle in the
Lenten wreath was snuffed out.
Psalm 118 was read responsively.
The New Testament reading was
Matthew 21: 1-11. These verses are
the story of Christ's triumphal entry
into Jerusalem.
Rev. Ross's message was titled,
Honouring Jesus. Throughout the
ages leaders and heroes have been
honoured by the citizens of their
time, just as Christ was. The question
was asked, How do we honour
Jesus? Three directives were
suggested.
Firstly, throughout their lives,
Christians should re-examine and
study His lessons. Secondly, these
lessons need to be accepted as He
reconciliation could affect their lives
and situations around the world
today.
In place of a speaker, a skit was
presented about "walls" that exist in
people's relationships. A short
discussion followed that identified
the "stones" which are a part of these
walls — jealousy, pride, fear, etc.
Reconciliation is possible when love
and faith break down the
stones/wails.
Those in charge of lunch that
afternoon served mazurkas or
and Love Much. Roll call was
answered with a joke or poem.
Hazel Reid presented the gift of
the month to. Margaret Good.
The rest of the afternoon was
whiled away playing cards. The
group will meet again on April
17
presented them, not adapted to suit
changing circumstances. Christians
need daily to take up His cross in
their living and honour Him by living
by His teachings. God will surely
help with this last directive. Christ
will be honoured by those who live
by the values and lessons He has
taught. •
Coffee, juice and muffins will be

The Sunday school would
appreciate help in decorating the
sanctuary next Sunday for the Easter
service. You are asked to share lilies
Romanian squares and fresh fruit.
The executive of the Huron Perth
UCW Presbyterial held a business
meeting at the church on Monday,
March 18. President Beth Tubb of
Mitchell chaired the meeting.
Reports and directives from the
various committees were received
and plans for a variety of events in
2002 were disclosed.
Women of Londesboro church
welcomed attendees with coffee and
muffins. Soup, sandwiches and apple
crisp were served at noon.
