early
start
What an excellent way to start the
morning by having a wonderful
breakfast at church.
The Sunday school teachers and
their helpers served up a delicious
fare of pancakes, eggs, toast,
muffins, bacon, sausage, fruit, juice
and coffee for only a $5 donation.
There were 65 Duff's family
members enjoying the breakfast and
social time before going up to
church. Thanks to the Sunday
school for all their efforts.
Greeting the congregation on their
arrival were Ron and Betty
McCallum.
Joan Tuchlinsky wekomed
everyone to the service and also
thanked the Sunday school for
making her feel full and
uncomfortable for the service. She
announced that the flower bulb
orders for the, UCW need to be
returned to Karen Hoegy by Friday,
March 8.
The Walton choir sang Old Man
Coming Home for the anthem, the
story of Jacob coming home.
The gospel reading was John 4: 5-
42 and was presented as a dramatic
presentation by Narrator Joan, Jesus
(Brian Black) and Samaritan
Woman (Karla Kale).
The story is about Jesus meeting
the Samaritan woman at the well,
speaking with her and offering her
the gift of the living water. It was
about spreading the word of God in
the country of Samaria and how
everyone is welcome to learn of
God and the living waters of faith.
To add to the dramatic dimension,
some loose plaster fell from the
ceiling in the choir passageway as
Jesus was speaking. Thankfully no
one was nearby, but obviously some
repair work will be needed.
Joan then interviewed the
Samaritan woman for the children's
time on how she felt when meeting
Jesus. The children then went down
to Sunday school.
The scripture reader was Brian
Black. Rev. Joan's reflection was on
our fears of the unknown and the
question, Is the Lord Among us?
People have always asked and
wondered where is God when we
are experiencing times of difficulty,
sorrow and loss, she said.
Sometimes answers are found in the .
most unexpected places.
The collection was taken up by
Ron McCallum and Darrell
McClure.
March 19 is the viewing of
Chocolat for the discussion group,
but no meeting place is decided.
Next Sunday, March 10, will be
the Sacrament of Communion.
Wednesday, March 13 from 10
a.m. until 2 p.m. will be Heritage
Day at Duff's United Church. It is
for children eight and up and for
everyone to attend from the area.
The cost is $5 per child.
Call Joan 887-8240 for more info
or if you would like to attend.
The UCW meeting is tonight
March 6 at 8 p.m. Leaders for the
evening are Judy Emmrich, Val
Pethick, Dianne Van Vliet and
Audrey Hackwell. The theme for the
night is, Banish Worry.
Visiting Walton was more popular
than leaving Walton this past week.
Home for a couple of days to visit
parents, Bill and Marie Courts, was
daughter Connie Coutts. They also
attended the memorial service for
Bill Wilbee in Seaforth.
Visiting with Don and Monique
Baan for a few days were Monique's
parents, John and Julia Vanostaayen
from Stayner. They were there to
celebrate Ryan's birthday which is
Feb. 29. It seems they had to have a
party Feb. 28 and March 1, so it was
duly celebrated.
Chris and Judy Lee had a wee
visitor for a few days. Grandson
Caden spent time with Grandma and
Grandpa while mom and dad, Tracey
and Brett, were holidaying in Cuba.
They had a great time and good
weather, but new mom Tracy really
missed her baby. Accompanying
them as well in Cuba were Mike and
Leanne Nolan.
Also visiting at Walton Little
School was Dr. Edwards. He was
speaking to the students about eating
healthily and about safety concerns.
He spoke to them about staying out
of pills and how important it is to
wash their hands often.
He showed them his stethoscope
and reflex hammer and how he uses
them. He was wonderful with the
children and they really enjoyed his
time with them.
Many of the local men enjoyed a
day of curling at Seaforth at the
annual men's bonspiel. The sponsor
for the one draw was our own
McGavin's and a good day was had
by all.
An unfortunate incident happened
last week to Geoff Banks's dog, Nip.
It was involved in a fight with two
other dogs and was seriously injured.
He is recovering after an expensive
trip to the vet. Nip is a border collie
Geoff has been training to herd
sheep. We hope he fully recovers.
It seems the flu is still raging in the
area. I know of quite a few still
suffering and we hope soon all will
be well.
Graeme Craig is hobbling around
on a crutch as he has a very sore foot.
Jason Shortreed reports his leg is
coming along nicely and he is even
out and about some. Father Bill is
still in University hospital in
London.
Our new full-time waitress at the'
Walton Inn is Tina McClure. She
will be there most days to brighten
FROM WALTON
Congrats to Bev Stevenson and leap
year baby Ryan Baan.
March 1 wasn't sure if it wanted to
come in as a lamb or a lion but
celebrating anyway on the weekend
were Audrey Mc'twain and Kathy
Humphries.
The annual meeting for the Walton
Hall board is Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
Interested parties are invited to
attend.
everyone's day. We wish Jennifer
Rea all the best at her new job in
Seaforth.
Congratulations are in order for
Bethany Black. She auditioned for
parts in the Huron Country
Playhouse production of Joseph and
His Technicolor Dreamcoat and
received word last week she had
been chosen to perform.
There will be weekend rehearsals
beginning soon and the actual
performances will be daily
beginning mid-May and running
through the month of
June.
She's going to be a busy girl and
we look forward to seeing her in
action. All of Walton wishes her well
in her endeavour.
The month of February ended with
only a feW birthday celebrations.
