Brussels Livestock report
Veal calves sell $4-$5 higher at Thursday sale
Total receipts for the week ending
Jan. 25 were 2,027 head of cattle,
275 lambs and goats.
On Tuesday, choice and exotic
steers and heifers sold at prices $3 to
$4 higher. The cows traded $2 to $3
higher also. On Thursday veal calves
sold $4 to $5 higher than last week
while, the lambs sold on a steady
market. On Friday all weights and
classes of stockers sold on a steady
market.
There were 302 steers on offer
selling from $110 to $114 with sales
tp $135. Luke Gingrich, Chesley,
consigned one limousin steer weigh-
ing 1,485 lbs. which sold to Norwich
Packers for $135. His overall offer-
ing of thirteen steers averaged 1,562
lbs. for an average price of $112.62.
One limousin steer consigned by
Neil Thompson, Atwood, weighed
1,435 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats
for $123. His overall consignment of
eleven steers averaged 1,480 lbs. for
an average of $114.61.
Dean Aldwinkle, Varna, consigned
four steers averaging 1,465 lbs. sell-
ing for an average of $114.99 with
his top limousin steer weighing
1,420 lbs. selling for. $117. Two red
steers consigned by David Bowles,
Brussels, averaged 1,423 lbs. selling
for an average of $113.77 with his
top red steer weighing 1,430 lbs.

Irvin Schenk, Petersburg, con-
signed three limousin steers averag-
ing 1,565 lbs. selling for an average

Wagg, Mitchell, averaged 1,239 lbs.
and sold for an average of $112.54
with sales up to $115. Mahlon
Weber, Paisley, consigned nine
steers averaging 1,456 lbs. selling
for an average of $110.31 with sales
Huron County, which had wrestled
the title of top hog producing county
in the province from Perth, saw its
neighbour recapture the title in 2001.
Huron's 594 producers shipped
793,803 hogs last year, Ontario Pork
figures showed, while Perth's 542
producers shipped 808,696.
Ontario had just over 4,000 pro-
ducers last year, down from 7,000 in
up to $113.75.
One charolais steer consigned by
Cunningham Farms, Lucan, weighed
1,415 lbs. and sold to Dominion
Meats for $121. Their overall offer-
ing of forty steers averaged 1,590
lbs. for an average price of $110.22
Bill Scott, Harriston, consigned thir-
teen steers averaging 1,273 lbs.
which sold for an average of $109.02
with his top two red steers averaging

There were 155 heifers on offer
selling from $110 to $114 with sales
to $128. One red heifer consigned by
W. R. Gardiner Farms Inc., Staffa,
weighed 1,365 lbs. selling to
Norwich Packers for $128. His over-
all offering of twenty-one heifers
averaged 1,233 lbs. selling for an
average or $111.32. Noah Weppler,
Ayton, consigned one limousin
heifer weighing 1,200 lbs. which
was purchased by .Norval Meat
Packers for $123. His overall offer-
ing of three heifers averaged 1,332
lbs. for an average of $109.75.
Two heifers consigned by Dwayne
Dickert, Ayton, averaged 1,335 lbs.
selling for an average of $113.86
with sales to $114.25. Two black
heifers consigned by Bruce Dale,
Centralia, averaged 1,343 lbs. selling
to Moyer Packing Company for

of $85.25. One charolais cow con-
signed by Ron Kries, St. Pauls,
weighed 1,935 lbs. and sold to
Aylmer Meat Packers for $83.
Benneweis Farms Ltd., Dublin, con-
signed one holstein cow weighing
1,075 lbs. which sold for $76.
There were 11 bulls on offer sell-
ing from $60 to $77 with sales to
$85.50. Ed Reinhart, Mildmay, con-
signed one limousin bull weighing
1,945 lbs. which sold for $85.50.
One limousin bull consigned by

1,945 lbs. and- sold for $83.
