The issue has taken on urgency because of the large number of households in the county served by septic tanks and the Ministry of Environment's ban on winter spread- ing of septage on farm fields. The three-part study by B. M. Ross and •Associates will survey sewage treatment "plantsin the coun- ty to see if there is additional treat- ment capacity available, talking to septic tank contractors to see what volume is involved and determining the probable capital costs to provide a dumping service at treatment plants. Scott Tousaw of the planning department explained the county will pay for the study but the opera- tion of a handling and treatment sys- tem would likely be paid for by a charge on haulers and homeowners whose septic tank is being cleaned out. Huron gets grant for groundwater study Huron County will receive a provincial grant to cover 85 per cent of a $489,000 study on groundwater.
