Scoring the winner was Joelle Reid, assisted by Jenny Bults. Cassy Stafford recorded her 12th shutout of the season for the win. Earlier, Saugeen tied the Mississauga Chiefs 2-2, defeated Brampton Thunder twice, 3-1 and 4- 2, and defeated the Buffalo Bisons 3- 0. Recording goals in the tournament were Joelle Reid with five goals, Courtney Sutherland and Randall Roy with two each, Jenney Bults, Kendall Whitfield, Coraleigh Littlejohn, Madison Yourth, and Ashley Gravett recorded single markers. The Brussels Bulletts travelled to Ilderton for a regular season match against their Intermediates on Monday, Dec. 18 Brussels opened the scoring when Rebecca Burton scored on a nice feed from Candace Procter and Alicia Dick late in the opening frame. The Bulletts added to that lead minutes later when Kern Meier fired one by the Ilderton goaltender setup by Michelle Cook. The Bulletts seemed to fade in the last-half of the game allowing their opponent to come back. Ilderton gained their first goal with minutes left in the second period. They struck again in the third frame. Moments later Ilderton again threatened to score but were turned away by Nicki Berfelz in the Bullett cage. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Brussels hosted the Strathroy Intermediates on Saturday, Dec. 22. The Bulletts struck first with Ashley Ritchie ripping a shot in assisted by Rachel Elliott and Meier in the first period. The Bulletts increased that lead to two early in the second when Elliott scored assisted by Ritchie and Meier. Sarah McDonald blasted a wrist shot in marking her first of the sea- son assisted by Dick and Jenn Hopf. At the 9:09 mark of the third period Meier got into the act scoring a goal assisted by Elliott and Ritchie. Ritchie then scored her second of the night assisted by Elliott, who scored her second only two minutes later assisted by Meier and Ritchie: The final goal came when Meier scored her second of the game assist- ed by Ritchie and Elliott. The Bulletts skated away with an impres- sive 7-0 win. The Bulletts continued on the road with a game the following night. in Sarnia. Brussels applied early pres- sure but was unsuccessful in an attempt to take the lead. Sarnia hit the scoreboard first when a high wrist shot eluded Berfelz. Sarnia struck again in the dying minutes of the first period to build that lead to two. The Bulletts never gave up and battled through a scoreless second period with the Starfires. The Bulletts came out on fire in the third period. Nicole White passed the puck up to Cook who in turn passed to Elliott who beat the Sarnia goalie. The Bulletts tied the game on the power play. Cook picked up the rebound off White's shot, circled the back of the net and fired a pass in front to a wide open Ritchie who slammed it in. The Bulletts compet- ed the comeback with 5:14 to go when Meier sent a lead pass to Ritchie who snapped a backhand shot in the Starfires cage to give the Bulletts a 3-2 victory. Berfelz sparkled in the Bullett cage frustrating the Sarnia forwards. The Bulletts made their way to Mitchell Saturday, Dec. 29. Candace Procter opened the scoring for Brussels finding a loose puck in front of the Mitchell goal and snapping it in. Mitchell came back to tie it up with only 11 seconds left in the peri- od. Meier restored the Bullett lead midway into the second frame assist- ed by Ritchie and Cook. Mitchell tied it again at the 12:42 mark of the third period. Berfelz did an outstanding job in the Brussels net to solidify the 2-2 tie. Brussels welcomed the Lucan Intermediate to town on Saturday, Jan. 5. The teams battled through a score- less first period with Lucan having the upper hand in the play. The Bulletts showed some fire in the sec- ond scoring early. White wristed a shot at the Lucan goalie and the rebound popped out to Kristen Palmer who slammed it in for the early lead. With 40 seconds to go Ritchie snapped one by the Lucan goalie set up by Palmer. Early in the third period Procter scored off a Meier rebound to give the Bulletts a commanding 3-0 lead. However, Lucan came bounding back scoring twice to make it a one- goal game. Berfelz was fantastic in the Bullett cage with many dives and glove saves to keep Brussels in the lead.. The final score was the Bulletts 3 and Lucan 2. Girls win tourney The Wingham Juveniles are competing in the international Silver Stick championship this weekend in Mooretown. (Advance Times photo) Juvies off to Silver Stick The Wingham McFadden's Maytag Juveniles recently won two of three in WOAA action. On Dec. 22 the Juveniles hosted Elma Logan and defeated them 7-0. Scoring for Wingham were Jake Bruce with a hattrick, Curtis Knight, Shawn Henry, Garrett Skinn, Kevin Hopf and Aaron Seip with a pair. Assists went to Greg Machan, Bruce, Rod MacEwen, Seip, Jake Henderson, Matt Merkley with two and Knight with three. Saturday, Dec. 29 Wingham travelled to Paisley. They came out on the wrong end of a 5-2 score as defensive laps- es cost the team dearly. Scoring for Wingham in the loss were Merkley and Seip. Brian Sinclair picked up two assists. On Sunday Wingham returned to its winning ways in a hard-fought contest with Mount Forest. With the score tied at one, Bruce scored the go-ahead goal with help from Seip. Mount Forest scored two more goals before the end of the period to take a 3-2 lead into the first intermission. Bruce scored his second of the game to tie it with help from Craig Marks and Henry. Mount Forest opened the lead early in the third but Wingham tied it again about a minute later. Seip scored the tying goal with the assist going to Henry. Marks scored the winning goal with 10 and a half min- utes to play in regulation time on a nice passing play with Steve Carter and Hopf, thus sealing a 5-4 Wingham victory. The Juveniles defeated Drayton 5- 2 in WOAA league play this past Saturday. Clinton managed to get a little closer but still faced a 7-2 defeat against Brussels in game two. Ropp led the onslaught this time with a hattrick, while Cochrane, McDonald, Phillips and McKague scored singles. Helpers went to Phillips, Cambell and Ropp with two, McClure, Cochrane and Chapman. Irwin gave Wingham a 1-0 lead on a nice coast-to-coast goal. Bruce picked up the, helper then Bruce made the score 2-0 with help from Marks and Seip. Drayton made it 2-1 before Seip gave Wingham an insurance marker. Marks and Brian Sinclair assisted. Sinclair made it 4-1 with help from Tim Robinson heading into the inter- mission. The teams exchanged third period goals to round out the scoring. Chad Cook scored the fifth Wingham goal with help from Skinn and Robinson. Next weekend the team travels to Mooretown for the North American Silver Stick Finals. Wingham's first game is at 10:30 a.m. Friday against Tavistock. They play Mildmay at 11 p.m. before playing Wiarton on Saturday at 7 p.m. to wrap up the Round Robin portion of the tourna- ment. In the championship final Brussels played Seaforth and while the, score was closer, it was a solid victory. McKague was leading scorer in this 5-2 effort with two goals, while Phillips, Ropp and McDonald bulged the twine once. Assists were credited to Ropp, •McKague, McClure, Cochrane and Chapman. Brussels wins first game 7-1
