The Citizen, 2002-01-09, Page 3Nirmal Bhotoia of Listowel was the
Grand Prize winner in the third annu-
al Blyth Bulldogs WIN! WIN!
Sweepstakes held Christmas Day.
Bhotoia had the option of a new 2002
pickup in the brand of his choice — or
$35,000 cash. He chose cash.
"This was our best year yet! said
Dwight Chalmers, one of the
Sweepstakes organizers. "Over 90 per
cent of the tickets were sold."
, The WIN! WIN! Sweepstakes was
established as a fundraising activity
for renovations needed at the Blyth
and District Community Centre. To
date, the Sweepstakes has raised over
$50,000.
"From the beginning, the plan has
been the same: run the Sweepstakes
five years, or until we have raised at
least $100,000 which will be donated
to the arena project", said Todd

to a delicious scalloped potatoes and
ham dinner served by volunteers.
Draws for a door prize and 50/50
took place, then everyone enjoyed
playing bingo.
The Diners' Valentine Party will be

Nikken Magnets as guest speaker.
New diners are welcome.

Blyth United Church welcomed
their new supply minister Rev. Dr.
Eugen Bannerman from Stratford.
Margaret Kai was guest church musi-
cian.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
children was "Who can fly the high-
est?" He told the story of an eagle that
thought he flew the highest but there
was a little wren that got a ride on the
back of the eagle, then flew a little
higher than the eagle.
His message to the adults was Mud
and Stars. The story was of two men
sitting in prison. One sees mud, the
other sees stars. Plant seeds where
you find yourself, and bloom where
you are planted, Rev. Bannerman
said.

MacDonald, who, along with Dwight
Chalmers, Paul Cooke, Barb Forbes,
Darren Richmond, Steven Sparling
and Sharon Whitfield make up the
Sweepstakes organizing committee.
"Local ticket buying support has
been tremendous. Some changes were
made this year, including selling tick-
ets for a longer time period and the
additional Early Bird prizes were pop-
ular" said Whitfield. "Expect a few
more changes next year, as the
Sweepstakes continues to evolve."
