Agriculture Brussels Livestock report New crop lambs sell on strong active trade Total receipts for the Brussels Livestock for the week ending Dec. 7 were 3,379 head of cattle, 741 lambs and goats. The fed steers and heifers sold on a steady markot. The cows also traded steady. The veal sold on a steady mar- ket. The new crop lambs sold on a strong active trade while the heavy lambs sold under pressure. Both the calves and yearlings sold on a strong active trade. There were 865 steers on offer sell- ing from $102 to $108 with sales to $118.50. Ross Baird, Wingham, con- signed one limousin steer weighing 1,250 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $118.50. His overall consignment of 14 steers averaged 1,465 lbs. for an average of $108.58, One limousin steer consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc., Woodstock, weighed 1,260 lbs. and was purchased by Norwich Packers for $116.75. Their overall offering of 15 steers averaged 1,449 lbs. for an average of $107.12. Doug Wagg, Mitchell, consigned four black steers averaging 1,175 lbs. sell- ing for $116.50. John Canada to host conference Ross Procter announced at the Perth Huron Shorthorn Club meeting in Brussels, Dec. 5, that the 10th Shorthorn World Conference would be held in Canada. The conference was first held in 1978 and takes place every three years. The 2002 meeting is scheduled to take place in September at the Charlottetown Veterinary College. Participants will register in Halifax on the 19th and after some sightsee- ing will travel to PEI for the formal proceedings on .the 21st. and 22nd. This year's theme is Shorthorns - A vital link in the global beef industry. The post conference activities will allow participants to enjoy extensive tours of Canada if they wish. The eastern Canada tour will travel through New Brunswick, Quebec and end up in Ontario. The western tour will start in Winnipeg, on Oct. 3, cross the prairies and end in British Columbia on Oct. 12. Procter mentioned that if you wanted to buy a Shorthorn to qualify for the tour that was just fine with him.
