Everyone had fun at the family Advent evening Sunday night. Starting off with the game, Name that Christmas Carol, people took turns drawing or acting out the car- ols that they chose from the pile. Following the game everyone dove into the delicious potluck spread. Then came the crafts where Advent wreaths were made by the families. The older children and par- ents decorated the big tree in the sanctuary and the little ones worked on the tree in the basement. Then during the singing of some Christmas carols Santa Claus made a visit. The jolly man listened with care to each child's Christmas wish, then gave them an Advent chocoiate calendar. As Santa left everyone sang, We Wish you a Merry Christmas. Donna and Trisha McClure were greeters at Duff's United Church on Dec. 2, the first Sunday of Advent. The Advent introit, Prepare the Way of the Lord was sung by the congregation. Joan Tuchlinsky gave the announcements. The Community Carol concert is this Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. at Duff's. How great it will be if everyone comes out and lends their ears and voices in listen- ing to the choirs and singing Christmas carols. Don't forget your one-stop Christmas shopping spree at the Walton Hall Saturday, Dec. 15. Come and see all the really neat things that people have worked hard to create. Since it was white gift Sunday the children along with Superintendent Shelley McGavin helped Ms Tuchlinsky lead the service. What is Advent? With the help of The Huron Tourism Association (HTA) members will host author and regional architectural enthusiast Ruth Cathcart at Benmiller Inn on Thursday, Dec. 6 for their Christmas meeting. Cathcart is author of Architecture of a Provincial Society: Houses of Bruce County 1850-1900 and How Firm a Foundation, Houses of Grey County. To create these books, she recorded more than 500 historic houses in Bruce and Grey Counties, driving the concession roads of the area in all kinds of weather. Many HTA members and residents of Huron County share her interest in identifying, preserving and celebrat- ing the history and the variety of spe- cial homes in rural Ontario. Cathcart encourages visitors to the area to explore the byways and backroads of Huron County next and find more historic 'gems' of domestic architec- ture and the stories of how these houses came to be built. The Huron Tourism Association has created a partnership with the Huron Business Development Corporation, St. Joseph and Area Historical Society, with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and other non-profit and business partners. Through this part- nership, a specialty touring experi- ence will be developed for visitors and residents, focused on Huron County's artists, artisans, their gal- leries and studios, cultural experi- ences based in local and regional museums along with notable her- itage architecture located throughout Andrew VanVliet, Ray Huether, Abby McGavin and Brandon McGavin, the question was answered. Laura Black read from the book of Isaiah while Adam Baan, Ryan Baan, Kenny Huether, and Austin McClure held up signs that said, Wonderful, Councillor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace and Everlasting Father. For Readers' Theatre, Beth Black, Andrew VanVliet, Brandon McGavin, Ray Huether and Laura Black all had readings about differ- ent characters who played a part in the events leading up to the birth of Jesus. Heidi and Adam McClure read the Advent litany and Adam lit the first Advent candle. The choir sang, She Walked in the Summer. During the offering the children the county. The partnership supports cultural and heritage experiences, events and sites in the county and will produce brochures, maps and a website along with assisting groups to participate in marketing and communications opportunities.
