into routine
The Brussels kindergarten stu-
dents are getting used to the routines
at school. They are working on the
letters S and T and also made apple
people.
Grade Is are looking at the signs of
fall and in math they are starting with
addition.
The Grade 2/3 class is studying
growth and change in plants.
This week the kindergartens to
Grade 3 are going to see Cinderella
in Blyth.
On Friday, seven of the students
travelled to Mitchell to compete in
the regional cross-country run. These
students finished in the top four at
the run held by Brussels at the
Wingham Golf Course.
Student council has also held its
elections and the following students
won: president, Amy Bishop; vice-
president, Jill Johnston; treasurer,
Amber Sellers; secretary, Catherine
Rushton and social events co-ordina-
tor, Cory Chapman. Congratulations
to you all,
for a mixed crowd so everyone is
welcome to attend at 8 p.m.
Friday night's supper of sweet and
sour chicken was delicious and a
great crowd attended. This week is
roast pork.
We congratulate Glen and Eileen
Sellers who celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary at the Branch
on Saturday evening. They had a
wonderful crowd of family, friends
and neighbours enjoy the evening.
There were three teams of crib
players off to play in Blyth on
Saturday as well. Two of the teams
will go on to District play including
Ken and Linda Bird, Bob and Margo -
Richardson, John Wright, Jim Alton,
Glenn Bridge and Lloyd Glanville.
Congrats to you all.
Our sympathy to Comrade Gary
Dauphin whose brother passed away
last week. Our thoughts go out to him
and his family.
You. will have seen by now that
poppies are available around town.
The poppy became famous as a sym-
bol of remembrance after 1915, when
army doctor John McCrae wrote a
poem about red poppies blowing
betweetr the rows of crosses of
Canadian soldiers who had died in
the First World War.
Poppies are available for approxi-
mately two weeks before
Rem,..,mbrance Day. The poppy is to
be worn on the left lapel above the
heart. It can be worn all day on Nov.
11 and then it shall be taken off.
People aftending Remembrance
Day Services are invited to place
their poppy at the cenotaph as an act
of honouring and remembering our
fallen soldiers.
During the last century over
116,000 Canadians have died to help
us keep our peace and freedom.
Poppies are not sold but donations
are gratefully accepted. The funds
raised are designated for needy
Canadian ex-service members and
their dependents. They are not used
to support the local legion. The funds
are held in trust and distributed in
accordance with the rules of the trust.
For more information and history
of the poppy look to the Legion web
site at www.legion.ca
There will be a door-to-door can-
vas on Nov. 6 by the Brussels Legion
_members and Cadet Corp. If you can-
not afford a donation, we invite you
to accept a poppy and remember. The
canvas will be from 7 - 9 p.m. on
Tuesday evening. . _
