Cadets welcome guests KENNETH ALLAN CRAW- FORD Surrounded by his family, Ken Crawford went into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at the London Health Sciences Centre (University Hospital) after complications during heart surgery. He was 63 years old. He was the devoted and loving husband of Joan (nee Wightman); cherished father of Jane and her hus- band, Rob McIvor of Sauble Beach, John and his wife Rebekah Crawford of Heidelberg, Kim and her husband Todd Lester of Waterloo. He was the proud and adored grandfather of Michelle, Daniel, Liam, Grace, Laura, Trinda, Lauren, Aaron, Brittany and Brooklyn. He was the son of Evelyn Crawford and the late Len Crawford of Wingham; brother of Lois and Bruce Robertson of Wingham, Bill Crawford and Jean of Mississauga, Bob and Ann Crawford of Wingham; brother-in-law of Stan and Barbara Hiseler of Bracebridge; Sus cn and Bill Howson of Blyth and Nancy Crawford of Mississauga; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his moth- er-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Leslie Wightman and sister-in- law, Eleanor Hiseler. Ken was a faithful and 'longtime member of First United Church in Waterloo. For the past 36 years he worked in the construction business and was currently a dedicated employee of United Rentals. A service of celebration for the life of Ken was held on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at First United Church, Waterloo with Rev. Rick Hawley officiating. Pallbearers were six of Ken's nephews: Mark Hiseler, Ross Hiseler, Rick Howson, Greg Crawford, David Robertson and Jason Crawford. Following the funeral a service of commital was held at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. MARGARET JESSIE FINKI3EINER Mrs. Margaret Finkbeiner of Hensall, formerly of Listowel passed away at Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001. She was 91: The former Margaret Campbell, was the beloved wife of the late Jack Finkbeiner. She was the dear mother of Joanne Wilkinson' of Exeter and Jackie and Bill Garniss of RR4, Wingham. Mrs. Finkbeiner is also survived by grandchildren, Peggy, Paul, Michael and David. She was predeceased by her grandchildren Richard Wilkinson and Cheryl Allen, her sisters Nellie and Jean and her brothers George and Will, Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Saturday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p,m. Pastor Joan Tuchlinsky officiated. Cremation followed with place- ment of ashes in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. NIESJE 'NIES' SMITS Niesje Smits of Brussels passed away at her residence on Sunday, Oct 21, 2001. She was in her 81st year. - She was the beloved wife of Peter Smit. Also loved by her many friends and her family in Holland. Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral service which is being conducted at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, 401 Albert St., Brussels, on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. Cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. The Belgrave Community Club travelled to Grand Bend on Wednestlay, Oct. 17 to attend the Zone 8 Fall Rally. There were approximately 145 in attendance. Lunch was served followed by a guest speaker Rev. Harry Disher. Each club presented a number for the programme. There was a share-the-wealth and many door prizes. There were eight tables of euchre in play on Wednesday, Oct. 17 in the Women's Institute Hall. The winners were: high lady, Norma Moore; second high lady, Mary Taylor; most lone hands, Louise Bosman; low, Helen Gallop; high man, Bob Grasby; second high man, Ken Spears; most lone hands, Ross Taylor;. low, Richard Moore. There is euchre again on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. Continued from page 2 The cadet corp went camping on the weekend and on their return reported a good time had by all even in the mud. A group of five cadets and their teacher Captain Grobbo attended the 70th anniversary celebrations at the Branch Saturday evening. They greeted the guests at the door and participated in the opening and clos- ing ceremonies by carrying the flags. They were instructed by Branch Sergeant of Arms Lisa Glanville. The cadets then assisted in the kitchen by doing clean up and dish- es. They worked quietly and well and did a very .good job. Cadets involved were Master Warrant Officer Cyples, Sergeant Dale, Master Corporal Robin, Sergeant Dentch, Sergeant Schmidt. The business this week received the information on the storefront decorating competition for Remembrance Day. All businesses are encouraged to decorate their windows and all prizes are donated to local youth groups or schools in the stores' names by Brussels Legion Branch 218. If interested in being included and you did not receive the required form, please contact the Branch at 887-6562. The annual poppy canvass around town will be done on Tuesday evening on Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. with the help of the Cadet Corp and Legion members. Please support the poppy fund as it is used for veteran's comforts and serv- ices. The end of the month is almost here so get in and pay your dues and hopefully win your chance in the larly bird draw. There were 22 veterans and wives at the veterans banquet on Sunday in Mitchell. There was entertainment in the afternoon, then a delicious meal. Thanks to Seniors Officer Ross Bennett and Marg for organizing our veterans to attend. Only two weeks to the craft sale at the Branch and Comrade Marg Bennett is looking for door prizes. At the Brussels Legion euchre on Oct. 13 there were 12 tables at play. The lucky winners for first place were Charlie and Millie McDonald. Following close behind for second were Delores Howatt and Hazel Reid. The third place team and close again was Lois and Raymond. The lucky lone hand winners for the ladies was Margaret Carter and the men's winner was Ivan Benneweis. Euchre is every two weeks at 1 p.m. The Sunday singles dance had a great crowd enjoying the music of Ken Scott. In one week Country Ways will entertain. Interested in Legion Sports activi- ties?
