It was a big chunk out of the bank account for North Huron this past month. Council approved at its Oct. 15 meeting payment of the general accounts in the amount of $1,109,354.82. Contributing to the substantial dol- lar amount was the fact that it includ- ed the September installments to the county ($310,683) and both school boards (Avon Maitland, $263,753; separate school, $37,499). There was also an overpayment in the subsidy from the county for the day care in the amount of $25,974. Water accounts, totalling, $71,987.40, were also approved for payment *** County planner Brian Treble pro- vided some information on Connect Ontario, a provincial initiative to get all municipalities and partners using the internet to the full advantage. The partnerships include the school boards, economic development organizations, hospitals and informa- tion technology service providers. Municipalities can receive up to $50,000 in the first step, which has to be matched by the municipality. This, Treble explained, is to com- plete and infrastructure plan to iden- tify services needed for public use. For example, the issuing and pay- ment of tax bills over the internet. "Perhaps the paperless society would eventually come about." Treble said the county is asking only for approval in principle. The application would be jointly made LEAN GROUND BEEF 1 99 4.39/kg I lb.
