L.Scott hosts WMS
FROM BELGRAVE
The Belgrave WMS held its meet-
ing at Lottie Scott's summer home at
Echo Lake on Monday, Aug. 13 with
nine members present and one guest.
Alice Nicholson opened with the
Purpose and a Call to Worship which
was followed by the hymn 0 Lord
Master of Us All.
The scripture was read by Ivy
Cloakey. Mrs. Nicholson read a
meditation on the verse Be Still and
Know that I am God.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell led in
prayer. Margaret Siertsema read a
poem,. So Swift Away, So Short the
Day. Mrs. Scott read The Meaning
of True Love and Freda Scott read
The Special Gift.
Mrs. Siertsema gave the secre-
tary's report and Mrs. Cloakey the
treasurer's report. There were 43
sick and shut-in visits recorded.
Invitations to Wingham on Sept.
18 at 8 p.m. and Lucknow on Sept.
12 at 6 p.m. were read. The Maitland
Presbyterial will be at South Kinloss
Church on Sept. 24.
The next meeting will be Oct. 1.

brate their 50th wedding anniversary

Announcements that there are two
birds from Southern Ontario possi-
bly infected with West Nile Virus
prompts a call for action. The Huron
County Health Unit urges residents
to report dead jays and crows, to
"drain the rain" once a week from
outdoor containers and to protect
themselves from mosquito bites.
"Our community needs to increase
surveillance activities," said Craig
Metzger, resource services division
manager at the Huron County
Health Unit.
Anyone who sees a dead jay or
crow is urged to call 482-3416 (or 1-
877-837-6143 if' long distance).
Given the recent rainfall, residents
are also reminded to "drain the rain"
once a week from outdoor contain-
ers to reduce the number of mosqui-
toes.
Metzger also suggests that people
protect themselves from mosquito
bites by staying indoors between
On Aug. 14 at approximately 1:15
p.m. damage to a hut located on
Cranbrook Road in Grey Twp. was
reported.
The owner of the property told
police that sometime during the
night, possibly around 2 a.m., a
vehicle stopped and its passengers
destroyed a small hut next to the
laneway by the road.
The children of the property use
the hut as they wait for the school
bus to arrive to take them to school.
The hut can be repaired but at
large expense to the owner.

The crow from Windsor and the
blue jay from Oakville have been
sent to Winnipeg for more tests to
confirm whether they are West Nile
Virus positive or not. This will take
about two weeks.
To date, no human cases of the
West Nile Virus have been found in
Ontario.
The health unit will inform the
public when more information is
available.
Officers discovered several bro-
ken beer bottles at the scene indicat-
ing that alcohol was a factor in the
destruction done. -
Anyone who can assist the officers
in the case are asked to call the
Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers with
any information.
