In a game with , great end-to-end
play, it took until late in the second
half for the Brussels U-9 I squad to
break the stalemate against Elma 2
when they met July 16.
Good offence was shown by Ty
Sebastian, when he frequently
rushed the length of the field only to
have his shot stopped.
Emily Baker was also a strong
force, stealing the ball and passing to
Sebastian.
Vicki Blake showed off her kick-.
ing skill, repeatedly clearing the
On July 17, the Brussels U-7 soc-
cer team worked hard for a win over
Newton 2.
Newton started with the first goal
of the evening despite good goal-
tending by Trevor Nesbitt.
Brussels got on the scoreboard
shortly after with a goal by Adam
Cousins. Brussels continued to play
hard with great passing by Derrick
Wood and Chad Terpstra. Jeremy
Ross and Jesse Rapson also put pres-
sure on Newton's goalie with lots of
shots on net. Wood came through for
zone and reversing play. Cam
Schlosser, Adrian Menzi and
Marissa Pipe worked the ball out of
crowds to advance play. Randy
Zwep's strong and deceptive left-
footed kicks were used frequently
for corner shots.
Zwep's ability came into play in
the second half when he was called
on to take a shot after a hand ball
close to the opposing net. The shot
sailed over the goalie's head for the
first netter of the game.
Gavin Bowers had a shot deflected
Brussels' second goal after a hard
kick on net.
Brussels players really came alive
in the second half of the game, with
Terpstra thinking fast on his feet
when he kicked in a rebound from
the Newton goalie.
Kayla Thalen stood strong in net
for the second half. Marlene Dale
and Krista McKay, on defense, did-
n't allow Newton to score again for
the game.
Wood had his second goal of the
game after a deflection off the

Emily Kerkhof, Megan Miners and
Cassidy Peachey worked hard in the
midfield to keep the....play moving
while Christopher Becker's defen-
sive play helped keep the ball away
from the net for goaltenders Lindsay

the ball around a lot of opponents
from Newton to give Brussels their
fifth goal. Cousins finished off the
scoring for the evening with two
more goals after good passing from
Dalton Hamilton and Wood.
Also contributing to the great
teamwork effort for Brussels were
Julena Pipe, Ryan Sholdiee, Shea
McLean and Christopher Ross, help-

The Brussels Tigers one-game
winning streak came to an end on
Friday night at home as they
dropped a 6-0 decision to the Lieury
Jets in Huron County Fastball
League action.
The Tigers missed a glorious
opportunity to open the scoring in
the bottom of the first as the first
two batters, Moe Pipe and Terry
Nichol hit but failed to score.
The Jets opened the scoring in the
third pushing across a run and added
two more in the fifth and three more
in the sixth.
Nichol pitched seven innings for
the home side giving up four earned
runs while striking out six Jets.
The next home action for the
Tigers will be Friday night as they
host the Goderich Dukes.
