Perth Junior Farmers create special cookbook
For almost 80 years the Perth
County Junior Farmer organization
has been building future rural leaders
through self-help and community
betterment.
Organized in 1922 after the con-
clusion of Agricultural Short
P. Coultes
hosts
4-H club
meeting
Courses in Stratford, Listowel and
Kirkton, the Perth County Junior
Farmers were active with judging
competitions and plowing competi-
tions at the International Plowing
Match, travel exchanges, provincial
camps, community betterment proj-
ects, field days, debating competi-
tions and public speaking competi-
tions to name just a few of the many
activities that took place each year.
Although today's Junior Farmer
organization has changed somewhat,
its roots are still ingrained in the
Principles set out by those who start-
ed this wonderful rural tradition
To celebrate this achievement, the
Perth County Junior Farmers are
working at producing a Memoirs III
Cookbook. Memoirs I was published
in 1962 and Menioirs II in 1982.
Included in the cookbook will be an
updated history of what has hap-
pened with the Perth County Junior
Farmers since Memoirs II was pub-
lished.
In order to make this project suc-
cessful, the Perth County Junior
Farmer organization is looking to
past members to submit their
favourite recipe as well as give their
fondest memory of their time spent
in Junior Farmers.
Information has been mailed out to
several past members. If you have
not received a letter in the mail and
wish to receive more information
contact Elizabeth at 519-29 I -2888
(e-mail address:
johnfarm@wcl.on.ca ) or Kathy at
.519-291-3374 (e-mail address: halli-
Vat@wcLon.ca ). The deadline to
submit recipes is July 31. The books
will be ready in early 2002.
The fourth meeting of the
Belgrave Brussels 4-H Club was
held July 4. Members met at the
home of leader Paul Coultes.
From there they went to the farm
of Ralph Scott's. Here the club had
the opportunity to see different
breeds of cattle and how to needle
them for different diseases. It was
very informative.
Members then headed back to
Coulteses where the meeting was
adjourned.
The next meeting will be held
July 25 at Paul Coultes's place.
