Huron East briefs Police bd. reps wanted With discussions nearing comple- tion for police services in Huron East, council agreed, at the May 15 meeting to advertise for representa- tion on the police services board. Though any municipality with under 25,000 people may operate a board with just three representatives, councillors agreed five would be. more appropriate. With Mayor Lin Steffler or her designate assigned to the board, council is seeking four other appli- cants for the positions. Council will select two representatives and the provincial government will approve. .two others, through council recom- mendations. It is hoped there will be represen- tatives from each ward. *** The resignation of public works employee Hugh McNichol was accepted, with regrets. Darryl Young was hired as a water and public works labourer. *** Grass cutting tenders were accept- ed from Alvin McLellan for Ethel Park, $50 per cut, and Ethel firehall, $10 -per cut and from Ray Cook for Seaforth Library, $16, Victoria Park, $29, Seaforth Reservoir, $17 and Brucefield Cemetery, $37. Grey Councillor Alvin McLellan had earlier declared a conflict of interest. *** The quote from Doug Leonhardt to relocate and hook up a heating and cooling system for the public works office was accepted. The cost is $1,337.40 including taxes. Tuckersmith Councillor- Larry McGrath had declared a conflict of interest. *** Steftler, Brussels Councillor Joe Seili, Seaforth Councillor William Teall and McGrath will sit on a review committee for the Huron East water and waste water system, overseeing upgrades to meet provin- cial standards. Deputy-Mayor Bernie MacLellan, McLellan, Brussels Councillor Greg Wilson and McKillop Councillor Sharon McClure were appointed to the Huron East waste management committee. *** In response to a request from the Vanastra and District Lions Club regarding the forgiveness, of partial rental fees, for the Vanastra Recreation Centre, council agreed to refer the question to the recreation committee. Noting the importance of these groups to all communities, McLellan said clubs like the Lions donate a lot of money, but that.is part of giving to the community. • Councillors were concerned about offering different fees to groups that set up and clean up for their everits and those that do not. Council agreed to accept the pur- chase of 60 place settings from the club in lieu of rental fees for another event at the centre. *** Support was denied for a resolu- tion from Brant County asking the province to standardize ambulance costs. Seili was worried about asking the prOvince to set rates after they had downloaded the service to the coun- ty. MacLellan said currently. Huron County has one of the highest fees for ambulance service, which bene- fits the county. If Perth County needs a Huron ambulance to cover a call, Perth must pay the higher fee. However, If Huron uses a Perth ambulance, the county pays Perth's lower fee. *** The question of increased prices for dog tags was referred back tothe administration for consideration. *** Seaforth Councillor Dick Burgess and Huron East resident Fred Leitch will represent council on the North and Central West study groups, respectively, for the Avon Maitland District School Board accommoda- tion reviews. Burgess will act as liaison for both groups to keep council informed. *** Accounts payable in the amount of $125,826 were approved for pay- ment.
