Raring to go
Students of F.E. Madill's Drama Guild are busily preparing for this year's presentation, a show-
case for Broadway. This group is flying high as they rehearse their routine. Shows highlighted
in the production include: Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar and Mary Poppins. The show begins
Thursday and ends Saturday night. Tickets prices are $7 and the performances begin at 7:30

Festival Singers go Canadian

Many Blyth and area students
competed successfully in the 20th
annual Midwestern Ontario Rotary
Musical Festival held April 23 - May
2. This festival is now the fifth
largest in Ontario and is ranked as
one of the top 10 in Canada.
It is a celebration of fine arts, as
competitors, participate in choir,
bands, strings, piano, voice, drama
and dance. The festival is held annu-
ally in Walkerton in co-operation
with Hanover-Walkerton Music
Teachers Association.
Local results of Annie Sparling's
students are as, follows: Rosalyn
Hartman of Londesboro, Broadway,
TV and Movie, second, Trained
Vocal A, first, Trained Vocal B, third;
Kendall Whitfield of Blyth, trained

The Blyth Festival Singers are cel-
ebrating the music of Canada on
Saturday, May 12 with a dinner and
show - Blyth Festival Singers Go
CanadianEh! to be held at the
Stanley complex at Varna.
The 40-voice choir will provide an
evening of entertainment, great food
and fun beginning with an old-fash-
ioned country dinner. The menu will
include a variety of country
favourites - baked ham, potatoes,
Huron County baked beans, vegeta-
bles and fresh baked pies.
Richard Hansen, director of the
Blyth Festival Singers, will lead the
choir in a number of Canadian musi-
cal selections - including folk, tradi-
tional and contemporary piece.
Sharon Johnston of Goderich will
accompany the choir on piano, and
also accr)mpany solo and small
group songs.
The entertainment bill will also
feature the talents of Beyond Bliss, a
vocal quartet with members Brian
Black of Walton and Jennifer Black,
Judy Garrett and Chad Spaulding.
Beyond Bliss was formed in
Kitchener in 1998. Influenced by
groups like The Nylons and
Manhattan Transfer.
As a special fundraising effort for
the choir, there will also be a silent
auction featuring a variety of items
donated by the choir members.
Tickets for the evening are $20.
