Council accepts gravel tenders
At the last April meeting. a total
of four gravel tenders were received
for North Huron council's considera-
tion for 19,000 metric tonnes of five-
eighths 'A' gravel to the north end of
the East Wawanosh ward.
Radford Construction of Blyth was
awarded the contract to supply,
crush, load and haul the gravel for
the tendered price of $3.16 per met-
ric tonne.

The long, harsh winter has claimed
another victim: 911, signs.
Ralph Campbell, North Huron's
rural roads manager, said a number
of signs have been damaged by
snowplowing this winter.
"It's pretty tough going into the
farmer saying, 'You have to spend
$30 to $40 to replace those
signs...Who's going to pay for them:
that's the issue," said Campbell.
Bob Thompson, director of public
works, said he believes it is the town-
ship's responsibility to replace the
signs if its crews did the damage.
Deputy Reeve Jeff Howson agreed.
"We can't control the weather. Go
ahead and take care of it," he told
Campbell.
However, it remains uncertain
whether Councillor Murray Scott
will get his 911 sign replaced: it
appears he ran over it himself.

Tom Pridham of R. J. Burnside &
Associates Ltd. has been appointed
engineer on the Whitfield Municipal
Drain.
Campbell also asked council's
opinion on when to hold an on-site
meeting with council members pres-
ent and when to just proceed with the
work.
A policy was initiated whereby a
council member shall be present if
the work totals over $1,000.
Campbell said there are numerous
drain clean-outs slated for this year
on the Jackson, Plaetzer and Walker
drainage works. Council will hold a
road tour later this spring to familiar-
ize all members with the location of
these drainage works and other sites
around the township.

Bruce Colwell of JBC Plastics.
located just outside Wingham,
attended last week's meeting to dis-
cuss the zoning on his property, the
former Ministry of Natural
Resources office on County Road 4
south.
Colwell said the temporary zoning
is up for review this month and while
he said he has no problem with the
agriculture-related requirement, he
said he would prefer a longer period
than three years.
Colwell explained he has had some
interest in the building from potential
tenants, but most want a period not
less than five years for a lease
arrangement.
Clerk-Administrator John Stewart
said he believes the term for tempo-
rary zonings under the Planning Act
is three years and therefore cannot be
altered. Council instructed Stewart to
contact Brian Treble, North Huron
planner, to discuss the request and
the zoning.
