Central Huron Reeve Carol Mitchell, centre, Premium Pork representatives Herman Lansink, president and CEO, and Greg Howard along with Anne Williamson, left, helped with the ribbon cutting. The event was well-attended by friends, neighbours and pork producers who had the opportunity to check put the latest structures and pick up information from exhibits while enjoying coffee and doughnuts. Reports on a successful alumni campaign, development of funding partnerships and plans for the upcoming fundraising golf tournament were highlights of the Ontario 4-H Foundation annual meeting held March 5, in Guelph. The trustees, representing individuals dedicated to developing a fund sufficient to ensure the financial viability of the Ontario 4-H program, reviewed the foundation's activities, elected a new chair and nominated new members. The first annual 4-H alumni campaign, launched in November by the Foundation, has already generated almost $10,000. Funding partnerships developed over the past year include: the Gay Lea Foods Co- operative Limited sponsorship of the 24 project awards; the OAC Alumni Association, OAC Alumni Foundation and the University of Guelph Alumni Association joint support of the "Go for the Gold" competition; and the Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association (OHRIA) endowment of $100,000 towards the development of horse club resources and leadership training. The Foundation acknowledged the investment management skills of Dr. Bruce Stone who realized a 21 per cent return on the Foundation's investment portfolio, despite a turbulent market. Federal and provincial grants have supported member opportunities, awareness activities, and volunteer programs. The Foundation elected Rosemary Peer, Wiarton, as its new chair. Nominated as new trustees were: Lindsay Barfoot, Breslau; Elgin Craig, Arthur; Janet Horner; Shelburne; Paul Larmer, Guelph; Gwen Paddock, Guelph; Doug Wagner, Petersburg; Joyce Weylie, Guelph; and Lyndon Stewart, Waterloo. John Dickey, Morriston, retiring chair and Tom Schmidt, Guelph, retiring vice-chair were recognized for their contribution to the development of the Foundation.
