FROM LONDESBORO Happy Gang hosts euchre at Hall The Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors sponsored a euchre party at the Londesboro Hall on Friday, March 9. There were 16 tables of card players. First prize with 79 points went to Verna Gibbings and Rita Flynn. Don Buchanan and Ruth Shiell came in second with 69 points. Third prize for 68 points was a tie between Harry Lear and Dennis Penfound and Eric and Bernice Moore. Raymond and Lois Haggitt had the most (six) lone hands. There were three share-the-wealth draws. The next card tournament will be held on April 20 one week later than usual. Friday, March 9 was an example of the phrase, "the best laid plans of mice and men go oft awry" for Hullett public school. The staff had decided that because of the number of storm days — 10 — experienced this winter, the school would not go skating on the last day before March break but stay in class instead. Shortly after 8 a.m. the electrical system went on the fritz. As the buses arrived with the children they were sent home again. Most disappointed, perhaps, were the young folk from Grades 6, 7 and 8 Greeting at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, March II were Mike and Shannon Clark and family. Ed and Mary Salverda were the ushers. The Old Testament scripture passage from Genesis 17: 1-12, 17, 18 was the covenant made by God with Abraham to give him a son. In Luke 12: 31-35, Jesus lamented for Jerusalem because the people did not listen to those who prophesied there. From the storybag during the children's time at the front, came a glue stick, a glue gun, school glue and tape. Rev. Paul Ross explained to the young folk that they are stuck to God like glue, that He loves and cares for them. This theme was repeated in Rev. Ross's sermon, titled Sticking in the House. whose after class dance was cancelled. To reinforce the peer mediation and peacemaker programs which operate at Hullett, the Canadian Half Pints were invited to perform for the student body. Their anti-bullying program is designed to enhance pupil awareness of and the need for tolerance in society. Matthew Goodall, a Grade 8 student offers the following report: The Half Pints came to Hullett Central School on Thursday, March 8. Chris is the tall one at 6'4"; Floyd is 4'6"; Sally is 4'2"; and John As Rev. Ross is taking a week's holidays, Richard Bain will be the guest preacher on Sunday, March 18. The session and committee of stewards are called to meet Wednesday, March 21 at 8 p.m. The is 4'9". There has been a group called the Half Pints for the past 18 years. First of all they talked to the students and answered some questions. After that the real fun started. The Half Pints played a game of basketball against four teachers — Miss Uhler, Miss McAsh, Mr. Caldwell, and Mr. Drennan. Partway through the game, five of the Grade 8 students took over from the teachers, M.J. Horbanuik, Amanda -Falconer, Shawn Drost, Brett Bean and Herman Van Baaren. At the end of the game the score was Half Pints official board meeting will convene at 9 p.m. 22, Hullett 14. Bravo to the Half Pints, nice try Hullett. The Half Pints all signed a basketball and presented it to the school. A good time was had by all the staff and students. Whether we are Irish or not, all of us can use a little luck in our lives, so don't be forgetting to wear your wee bit o' green on Saturday.
