PAGE 26. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2001. Londesboro UCW marks World Day of Prayer The March meeting of the Londesboro United Church Women was the observance of the World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 2. Guests for the afternoon were the ladies of the Auburn United Church. This year's service was prepared for groups around the world by the women of Samoa. The Pacific coun- try of Samoa with a population of 165,000 is made up of 10 islands of varying sizes. Christianity came to Samoa in 1830 and the country held its first World Day of Prayer service in 1982. The Kava ceremony performed during Friday's service, is one of Samoa's most sacred ceremonies. It is an expression of friendship and love that the Samoans wished to share with the global community. Used as the uniting symbol of yo, friendship during the ceremony was a coconut. Samoan use of the coconut is threefold — for shelter (from fronds), for utensils (shell) and for nourishment (fruit and milk). Samoans believe that one needs to be informed when prayilig and take practical action after prayer. Queen Esther learned the plight of the Jews and prayed several days By Steven Dougherty On Monday, Feb. 26 Miss Uhler's Grade 8 class Went on their resched- uled ski trip to Talisman. With the before visiting the king. The Canaanite woman with an ill child learned about Christ's healing repu- tation before she petitioned Him. Both women, therefore, were exam- ples of the service's title, Informed Prayer, Prayerful Action. Those participating in the service were encouraged to identify a need they could pray about and then take rain, then the snow we had fears of the trip being cancelled a second time. However it was a go. Ski conditions were perfect as a action for. Installed just in time to be appreci- ated that afternoon were the new window blinds in the Sunday school room. The blinds truly showed off the lovely stained glass windows. The blinds will be further enhanced with new toppers. Purchased in memory of Joy Vodden, a plaque will be affixed on the wall signifying result of the fresh snow and we were treated with warm sunshine for most of the day. We all had to take a skills test to determine which hills we could go on. This was done by issu- ing coloured stickers that were added to our lift passes. We all had a fun and interesting day, no (serious) injuries fortunately. (311Mil STOPPERS 1-800-222-TIPS this, The UCW ladies want you to start your. spring cleaning.
