Once again this year we saw Graeme Craig whipping up his famous pancake batter while Shannon Gibbons and Brad Finlay son did the actual cooking and flipping. Andrew van Vliet and Brandon McGavin thought it looked easy enough so they tried their hand PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Patty Banks Call 887-6156 Were you ever in a musical or even in a play as a young person? If you were you probably remember how much fun it was and how it made you feel, not to mention the friends you made, the things that you learned, etc. Well Walton is putting on a community musical for children in Grade 4 and up called The Rock Slinger and his Greatest Hit by Tom S. Long. It's an exciting and humorous musical about David and Goliath. Bryan Black of Walton, currently the youth choir director at Duff's at it for a bit too. Brian McGavin and Gloria Wilbee were in charge of the egg cooking and Shelley McGavin made toast. Abby McGavin made sure that everyone had a napkin and silverware. Dianne van Vliet, Heidi McClure and Patty Banks, kept the platters full of food. After the meal the kids helped with the dishes and clearing tables. Once again it was a great meal and a great turnout. Thanks to all those who came and made tHe meal a great success. Joan Tuchlinsky has been taking a Rural Ministry course at London Conference. She chose a farm experience to reflect and write about. She worked a day on John van Vliet's pig farm and had a wonderful time. She learned very early in the day that the dust really affected her allergies, but that did not keep her from working hard moving pigs. She learned about the various aspects of farming. John was great to work for, he was willing to explain things to her. They talked about the concerns and the future of farming. Will there be a future in farming for the younger generation? Joan was aware and appreciative of many things that day, from going in from the cold to a warm barn and United and a professional singer will be the musical director for the musical. Students from Walton and surrounding area have been contacted. Practice will be on Wednesdays after school at the church, from 4 to 5 p.m. The music is incredible and it should prove to be a great experience for everyone. We're looking at June 9 for the performance which will be at the Walton Hall. If anyone would like to have more information call Bryan Black at 887- 8239 or Patty Banks at 887-6156. This is maybe something one wouldn't notice as much if they were working in' an office environment. The experience heightened her sensitivities and she really got a lot out of it. Here's hoping we hear more about her experience on the farm. Howard and Audrey Hackwell greeted worshippers to the service March 4. With Joan away Margaret Hern took over the service. She welcomed everyone and invited the congregation to join her in the Call to Worship. She announced that the WUCC meeting will be March 7 at 8 p.m. Books are also available for the book study beginning March 12. The book is called, The God We Never Knew by Marcus Borg. The study will be on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Give Joan a call if you are interested. Ms Hern called the young worshippers forward and asked if they had seen any signs of spring yet. Some green grass had been spotted, geese had been seen and the sun was out. She showed them some branches she had collected this past week. One had pussy willows on it, another hadlilac leaves almost ready to open and the other one was a forsythia which will have bright yellow flowers on it.
