The Blyth PeeWee bulldogs began
WOAA playoffs with Clifford on
Thursday, Jan. 18.
Clifford struck first scoring at
13:22. The Bulldogs Brett Bean tied
things up minutes later on a nice set
up by Darren Austin. The Clifford
squad came on strong scoring three
more unanswered goals and held a 4-
1 lead at the end of the first period.
The Bulldogs refused to roll over.
Austin scored from Bean at the 8:16
mark of the second. Kyle Procter
added one from Bean, who then
scored his second of the night on a
great passing play by Austin and
James Durrell to draw even with
Clifford.
Clifford came out on fire in the
third busting the twine just 29 sec-
onds into the period. Blyth's
Christopher Bernard answered that
with a goal assisted by Josh
Albrechtas.
Clifford once again brought on the
pressure and scored two goals. The
Bulldogs pulled the goalie in an
effort to tie but were unsuccessful.
The game ended 7-6 for Clifford.
The second game took place Jan.
11 in Clifford. The Bulldogs took the
play to their opponents from the
start. Mid-way through the first peri-
od Austin gave the Bulldogs the lead
assisted by Bean.
It turned into a very close check-
ing game by both squads with the
Bulldogs holding the upper hand
leading 1-0 at the end of the second
period.
Blyth was caught off guard early
in the third giving up a goal to draw
In his first appearance in net, Brent
Wheeler helped take the Brussels
PeeWees to a 4-3 victory over
'Wallace, Jan. 19.
Filling in for the injured Kyle
Gibson, Wheeler did a great job
backing up a team effort.
Brussels struck first when Tyler
Jutzi bulged the twine at 8:19 and
Scott Phillips added a second netter
less than a minute later. Adam
McClure earned the assist.
Clifford even. Moments later
Clifford added another to take the
lead for the first time in the game.
Clifford continued the assault with
two more goals before the game
ended giving them the victory at 4-1 -
and a commanding 2-0 lead in the
series.
The Bulldogs hope to avenge that
loss back in Clifford Monday, Jan.
'22 at 7:30 p.m, then in Blyth
Thursday, Jan. 25 if necessary at
6:45 p.m.
Wallace drew even in the second,
popping in two unanswered goals.
On a play set up by Cory Chapman
and Matt McClinchey, a shot b!, Phil
Wedow put Brussels ahead at the
10:47 mark of the third. Wedovv fol-
lowed it up with another two and a
half minutes later when he was set
up by McClinchey and Justin
Mayne.
Wallace pulled to within one late
in the frame, but the effort fell short.
The Blyth Bantam Bulldogs fin-
ished off a busy week before heading
into the OMHA playdowns. The
Bulldogs won two and lost two, to
bring their season record to 12 wins,
eight losses and a tie.
The Bulldogs hosted Elma Logan
Monday night to finish their sched-
ule.
The Bulldogs travelled to
Normanby Twp. on Sunday, Jan. 14.
Blyth scored five first period goals
enroute to a 9-4 victory. Tyler
Kernighan and Micah Loder led
Blyth scorers with two each, while
singles went to Kirk Stewart, Tyler
Campbell, Lee Prescott, Sean Hoegy
and Cody Anderson. Assists were
picked up by Stewart, two, Loder,
Kernighan, Prescott and Neil
Salverda.
PeeWee call-up goalie Jeff Elliott
picked up the-win in the Blyth net.
On Monday, Jan. 15, the Bulldogs
hosted Clinton. In an action packed
game, Clinton scored two goals in
the last five minutes of the third peri-
od to ice a 4-I win. Stewart scored a

Michelle Cook opened the scoring
in the-second period at 5:26 on a pass
from Sarah McDonald. Cook added
her second of the night from Nicole
Procter 35 seconds later.
Kerri Meier increased the lead to
three on a great unassisted effort with
3:41 to go in the second period. Cook
netted the hattrick with a nice wrist
shot set up by Michelle Nixon and
Ashley Ritchie at the 1:39 mark.
The Teeswater team scored two
quick goals early in the second to
narrow the gap.
Ritchie sealed the deal slapping a
shot into the Teeswater cage with
4:41 remaining. The Bulletts went
home with a 5-2 victory.
On Saturday, Jan. 13 Brussels
hosted a much improved Lucan
squad. Procter gave the Bulletts the
lead assisted by Meier and Kristen
Palmer. Nixon popped one in the
Salverda for Blyth's only marker.
Bulldog goalie Travis Shelton had
an outstanding game.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Bulldogs
were on the road to Kurtzville to
play Wallace AE. Blyth broke open a
tight game with three unanswered
third period goals to clinch a 5-1 vic-
tory. Denting the twine for Blyth
were Campbell, Loder, Kernighan,
Patrick Rushton and Kyle
Stephenson. Adding assists were
Mike Bean with two, T.J. Marks and
Andy Toll.
The Bulldogs travelled to Clinton
on Saturday, Jan. 20 to take on a
strong Clinton squad. After a score-
less first period, Clinton scored four
times in the second frame and went
on to a 6-1 victory. Loder netted
Blyth's only goal on an assist from
Stewart.
The Bantam Bulldogs open their
playoffs on the road in Hensall on
Friday, Jan. 26 for an 8 p.m. start.
Hensall returns to Blyth on Monday,
Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. for game two. The
remaining games of the series are yet
to be scheduled.
Lucan net on a pass from Ritchie and
McDonald with 1:23 to go in the first
period. These goals proved to hold
up as the Brussels team walked away
with a 2-0 victory.
The following day Brussels went
to Parkhill.
Parkhill opened the scoring and
held that lead until the 9:56 mark of
the third when Palmer took a pass
from Rachel Elliott to knot the game
at 1-1.
The game ended in dramatic fash-
ion as Cook picked up a loose puck
and skated in on the Lucan goalie
sending backhander into the cage
with just 25 seconds left on the
clock.
The Bulletts skated away with 2-1
victory.
