Food drive brings in 11 boxes

The Grade 3/4 students at Blyth Public School performed
The 12 Days of Christmas at the annual Christmas
concert at Memorial Hall on Wednesday night. More
pictures from the event will be featured in next week's
"Season's Greetings" issue of The Citizen.

Kindergartens dance

Kindergartens have, been
practicing their line. dariCe for the
Christmas concert's They made
festive cookies and have been
learning numbers with Franklin
(the turtle) on the computer. They
have been writing in their journals
and learned how to make reindeer
snacks. Cut a reindeer head out of
bread, spread peanut butter on it,
put pretzels on it for antlers,
gumdrops for eyes and fruitloops
for eyes.
The Grade 1 class has been
adding numbers and making 3D
Santas with the Grade 2 class. They
have been reading lots of Christmas
stories and can't wait for Christmas
to come.
Grade 2 has been making up
recipes for soup in their journal.
They have been reading many
Christmas books. In math they
have been learning measurement
and are having lots of fun.
The Grade 3 class made a secret
surprise for their parents and are

At the inaugural meeting of the
Huron-Perth Catholic District
School Board, Dec. 7 new execu-
tive members were selected.
Louise Martin, representative for
Clinton, Goderich, Blyth and
Wingham and Colborne, Hullett,
Turnhcrry, Morris, East and West
Wawanosh and Ashfield Twps. was
appointed chairperson.
Mike Miller, representing Exeter,
Hensall, Zurich and Bayficld and
Stephen, Hay, Tuckersmith, Stan-
ley and Goderich Twps. was
appointed vice-chair.

This is the time of year to be
generous. The Blyth Public School
Students' Council held a school
wide food drive. They asked for
donations of new clothing and toys,
and non-perishable food items
before Friday, Dec. 7.
There were around 11 boxes of
donations collected from our
school. These• items will be given
to those less fortunate than others.
The Christmas concert was held
on Dec. 9 at the Blyth Memorial
Hall. The students gave
performances relating to Christmas
symbols.
Veronica Edwards introduced
each performance. The Early Years
class told -all about Santa Claus
with poems and songs. Mr.
Maertens welcomed everyone to
the concert.
After the welcoming the Grade
8s held a draw as a class trip
fundraiser.
The Grade 2/3s presented their
play called, "Merry Christmas
Little Mice."
Grade 3/4 sang The 12 Days of
Christmas and performed some
actions to go along with the song.
Dancing and singing to The Jingle
Bell Rock is what the Grade 4/5
class seem to enjoy.
The audience joined in singing
some carols during the concert.
The Grades 1/2, 6/7, and 7/8
performed a Christmas pageant
entitled "Bethlehem voices". For
the finale, the students of Blyth
Public School sang Let There Be
Peace on Earth.

The whole school is going
skating on Friday, Dec. 18, at the
Blyth arena. If your child has ice
skates please send them to school
with them in the morning. You
better bundle up — it's chilly out
there!
There will be carol singing, held
in the gym on Wednesday, Dec. 16
before the Christmas break comes
along!
The Grade 6/7 newspaper
reporters hope that everyone has a
safe and happy holiday. -'►

The Grade 4/5 class has been
very busy.
In gym they have been doing
their dance unit which includes
learning . the Virginia Reel,
Hitchhiker, and the Macarena. The
Grade 4/5 class enjoys the Virginia
Reel as their favourite dance. At
the concert they performed the
Virginia Reel. In class, they are
also combining two strands, vocal
music and dance/drama.
The Grade 4/5s reached their
goal about circnit training and the
students are looking forward to
setting new goals this term.
In math they are completing a
unit on multiplication and readying
themselves to start division. They
have started book talks and are
looking forward to reading many
different genres.
In social studies they have just
completed interesting history
projects. They are learning about
their famous relatives.

The Kindergarten class has been
working very hard in Term 1. They
have finished learning all of the
colours and are now learning the
alphabet through songs, action,
words and stories.
Their class is now starting to
study a behaviour program called
Second Step. All of them learned
about the feelings such as sadness,
happiness, anger, surprise, fear and
disgust.
Their class is beginning to make
crafts, read stories and sing songs
for Christmas. They have been
doing very well in practising for the
Christmas concert.
Class B has a new student and
her name is Kaitlin Fisher.
The class welcomes Angela Hoy
'who is an educational assistant for
Kaitlin. We hope Kaitlin and
Angela enjoy being at Blyth Public
School.
very excited that Santa is coming.
Melissa Kroll has moved away.
The Grade 4s threw a party for her
and wish her the best of luck in her
new school. They have been
putting on plays and did a project
on animals.
The Grade 5 class has been
working on expanded and standard
form in math. In French they have
been writing letters to Santa and
making a French book on ants.
The Grade 6/7 class has been
doing lots of Christmas crafts. They
are making a reindeer wreath and a
snowman out of paint stir sticks.
They have watched two movies:
The Santa Clause and Jingle All the
Way with the Grade 7 and 8
classes.
Grade 7 and 8 have been learning
circumference, diameter, area and
radius. They have been making
reindeer wreaths like the Grade 6/7
class.
Kindergarten to Grade 5 have
been very busy planning for the
Christmas concert.
