Prov. extends child program
On beautifully decorated tables a
sumptuous Christmas dinner was
served by Maxine Seers, assisted
by her daughter Carol and Sandra
Popp, to the Silver Tops. Thirty-six
members, guests and former
members were present.
Margaret Hildebrand thanked her
for the delicious Meal. Everyone
received a gift.
Marion Haggitt gave a reading
and carols followed. Rev. Paul
Ross led for the singing and
Marjorie McDougall was pianist. A
The Sunday School was
completely in charge of the third
Sunday of Advent service on Dec.
13 at Knox United Church,
Auburn.
Ann Vincent, Sunday School
superintendent, was in the pulpit.
The third Advent candle was lit
by the Durnin family.
The preschoolers under direction
of Linda Plaetzer, sang Away in a
Manger followed by the
kindergarten group doing He Cares
for You.
A skit "Let Your Star So Shine",
Christmas message was given by
Rev. Ross.
Ethel Ball introduced Bernice
Jewson, who showed pictures of
Ethiopia. Mrs. Jewson had lived
there and recently returned for a
visit. She spoke about past and
present conditions.
After the pictures Ruth Jardin,
now of Blyth, gave some readings.
All Silver Tops were present
except two for this special
occasion.
Kay Lapp was absent as she has a

under the direction of Shirley
Andrews was done by Grades I to
3. The children collected the White
Gift offering. Prayer was given by
Andrew Sturzenegger.
Grades 4 - 8 presented "The
Parable of the Shopper", closing
with the singing of I Love You
Lord. Karen McClinchey and Ann
Vincent are teachers of this group.
The congregation went
downstairs after the service for a
luncheon. The proceeds of this goes
to the United Church Native
Healine Fund.
Provincial funding in the amount
of $100,000 was extended to the
Huron County Health Unit to
continue delivering the Healthy
Babies, Healthy Children program
in 1999.
"We received base funding of
$33,000 along with $67,000 of
"enhanced funding," explained
Marlene Price, manager of the
Healthy Babies, Healthy Children
program at the Huron County
Health Unit. "The enhanced
funding will go towards increasing
the home visiting program by
public health nurses and parent
resource visitors and delivering
prenatal screening throughout
Huron County."
Research indicates that the first
few years of childhood are critical
in establishing the foundation for a
child's health and lifelong social,
4motional, and intellectual
development. The Healthy Babies,
Healthy Children Program is
designed to ensure that all Ontario
families with children (prenatally
through age six) have access to the
supports and services they need
while raising their children.
The Healthy Babies, Healthy
Children program was introduced
in Huron County in January 1998.
Although this program is
administered by the Health Unit, a
network of parents and service
providers, including physicians,
