Walton students decorate
Barb Durrell greeted worshippers
as they attended Duff's United
Church on Dec. 13.
Rev. James Murray gave the Call
to Worship.
Dianne VanVliet and her son
Andrew, lit the third Advent
candle, the candle for healing, and
took turns reading the litany.
The junior and senior choirs
sang, The Virgin Mary had a Baby
Boy.
Rev. Murray announced that the
Sunday School Christmas party
will begin with skating at the
Brussels arena on Dec. 21 from 6 -
7 p.m. Then it's back to the church
for hot chocolate and goodies.
Everyone is welcome to come and
enjoy good times together.
Christmas communion will take
place next Sunday. The Christmas
Eve service begins at 8:30 p.m. in
Walton.
Rev. Murray's sermon was
called, "Joy".
Rev. Murray has found that the
two main questions asked of him
these past few weeks are, "Have
you finished your Christmas
shopping yet?" or "What do you
want for Christmas?"
Even in the church, he said, the
focus often seems to be on giving
and getting presents, as opposed to
giving love and getting ready for
Christ.
Rev. Murray also noticed that the
malls were full and the clerks were
run off their feet but a lot of
smiling faces he did not see. He
read a definition of joy as being the
result of a heart burning with love.
Joy is a response, the result of a
deep experience. "When we find
true peace in Christ we find
contentment and harmony. This
ultimately gives us the experience
of a great and wonderful joy, one
which the world cannot give."
Joy, he said, is that intense
expedience, which comes when led
by the love of God, into a new life.
It comes with the experience of
healing. Joy comes when the blind
can see, when feuding couples are
reconciled, when the Gospel of
Christ is lived out in everyday
lives.
Rev. Murray left ,the
congregation with three things to
challenge them: When you meet
someone, don't ask about their
shopping or wish, list, but rather ask
them if they have caught the
Christmas spirit. Also, ask them if
they picked up the Advent gifts of
hope, peace, joy and love in their
travels and who they will share
those gifts with?
Secondly at Thanksgiving,
people often say what they are
thankful for this year. So at
Christmas dinner, Rev. Murray
said, why not ask everyone to say
where they experience hope, peace,
joy and love in their lives this year?
Finally, he said, spend time in the
next two weeks doing something
which will strengthen your
relationship with at least one
person. The memory of that time
spent together will last much longer
than any present ever could.
"May your joy be complete in
Christ Jesus."
As you walk into the Walton
Public School, you will see the
office and library windows covered
with paper angels and faces of all
the children in the school on them.
The students enjoyed their
annual Christmas turkey lunch this
past week. Each class had to make
their own desserts and prepare the
vegetables.
The kindergartens made jello
jigglers and ice cream cone
desserts. The Grade I/2s served
cookies and Grades 2/3s made
apple crisp with each child bringing
their own apple to put in the
dessert. Grade 3/4 enjoyed
delicious banana splits.
Many volunteers helped make
the event such a success.
The Christmas concert which is
called, 'C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S' will
be held at Duff's United Church
Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. A
special presentation to the
McDonald family will be given in
