Knox WMS hosts
Listowel `Bessies'
Getting acquainted
More used to a sleigh and reindeer, than horse and wagon, Santa took a little time to get to
know his travelling companion during his visit to Blyth last Saturday. Beginning at Lions
Park, horse drawn wagon rides with Santa were offered by the local Lions Club, along with
hot dogs and hot chocolate. (Mark Nonkes photo) -
On Dec. 8 the WMS of Knox
Church, Cranbrook met at the home
of Mrs. Stuart Stevenson. The
hostess had her home beautifully
and tastefully decorated — even to
the Three Kings (dolls) sitting on
her kitchen table with their lovely
flowing velvet robes. In their hands
they held their three precious gifts
— gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The missionary group is at
present twinned with the ladies
from the Bessie Mac Murchy group
from Knox in Listowel. Cranbrook
entertained 13 "Bessies" to a
potluck meal at lunch time. The
meal was held in Mrs. Stevenson's
artistically arranged "rec" room.
Thirteen ladies came from Listowel
and everyone sat down to a
bounteous meal.
After the meal everyone moved
upstairs to the living room. The
president, Mrs. Leslie Knight, led
all in Christmas devotions.
Readings and meditations were
offered by the leader.
Then each of the seven members
gave .a reading prepared by the
president and taken from the "Good
News Bible". The readings were.
interspersed by everyone joining in
to sing the favourite carols of
Christmas.
Lightning loses 4-1, 1-0
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning
PeeWees had two games this past
weekend,
In a meeting with the Chatham
Outlaws, the girls were down early
in the first, but fought back to: tie
the game when Heather Walker
popped the puck over the goalie to
fall just inside the goal line.
Earning assists on the play were
Jessica Mann and Brittany
Campbell.

second period and upped their lead
when Gowing scored an unassisted
goal. Late in the second period
Subject scored his second of the
game with Prior drawing an assist.
Hensall scored mid-way through
the third period to make the final
score 4 - 2 for Brussels.
After a stop at McDonald's in
Exeter for lunch the Tykes
travelled to Zurich to play an
afternoon game. Concern about
playing two games in one day were
quickly resolved as Brussels
showed lots of enthusiasm.
Gowing with' an assist going to
Thomas Johnston opened the
scoring 10 minutes into the game.
Evan Ducharme, taking a pass from
Cole McLean, scored to up the lead
to 2 - 0. In the last minute of the
first period, Subject scored with an
assist going to Smith.
Mid-way through the second
period Subject scored his second
goal of the game with Ducharme
drawing an assist.
Good goaltending by Josh Oke
kept Brussels off the scoresheet for
the remainder of the period.
Meanwhile his teammates scored
twice to cut the lead to 4 - 2.
In the third period Gowing made
a solo rush to score the final goal of
the game to cap a 5-2 victory.
Joel Wilkinson registereg the win
as the Tyke netminder.
The two victories upped the
Tykes' record to five wins, two
losses and a tie.
This Saturday they play .at home
when they face Clinton at 10 a.m.
Controversial goals in the second
and third periods put the Lightning
down by two and a late period goal
by the Outlaws ended the game 4-1
in favour of Chatham.
Next day action was against the
London Devilettes, with whom the
Lightning are one - one so far this
season, both 1 - 0 scores.
London opened the scoring in the
first period on a redirected shot that
just squeezed by the post along the
ice. Second and third periods had
both teams with good scoring
chances, but solid goaltending at
both ends kept the puck out of the
net.
Nicky Berfelz made a spectacular
glove save that earned the applause
of the fans from both teams and
kept the game within one. With the
goalie pulled in the last minute, the
Lightning came close but couldn't
pull it off and had to settle for the
1-0 loss.
