Blyth council
On Friday, Dec. 4, the day began
with a thick fog in the air, but the
sunshine came out to make it
perfect conditions for diners to
attend Dining Out's Christmas
Dinner. This month, 45 people took
part in the program.
The Town & Country
Homemakers provided a turkey and
all the trimmings, topped off with
Christmas pudding or a fruit plate.
Ruth Sauve of Brussels assisted
in the kitchen.
This month, Marian Young was
the 50/50 draw winner. The door
prizes, compliments of Isabelle
Craig, went to Marian Haggitt of
Auburn and Shirley Rutledge, of
Blyth.

As one controversial drainage
issue was apparently put to rest,
another surfaced to take its place.
Blyth council was threatened
with legal action at the Dec. 7
meeting, after they passed a bylaw
to pay for the entire Dyk Drain
assessment from the general fund, a
total of $720. Of that cost, $391
was assessed to a private property.
In a related matter, the Cum-
mings Drain issue had raged hotly
in council chambers for several
months, with Blyth property own-
ers George Reinink and Chuck
Krieger fighting council's motion
to pay the entire $52,059.70
assessment for all property within
•
the village limits.
At the Monday meeting, the
bylaw settling the Cummings Drain
matter was passed with each prop-
erty owner paying their own assess-
ment. Councillors Rob Lawrie and
Doug Scrimgeour declared con-

(volunteer) and Marian Haggitt, all
celebrating birthdays this month.
Kathy Bromley spoke of the
importance of an upcoming
meeting on Dec. 15, in the
Memorial Hall, concerning the
"Community On Patrol" program
that is now in the process of being
formed. She stressed to everyone
what this program plans to
accomplish and hopefully, it will
give them a better sense of security
in the community.
Any questions my be answered
by the Ontario Provincial Police
officers that will be in attendance.
Darlene Vander Veen and
Debbie Siertsema provided music
to get everyone into the Christmas
spirit.
The next meal won't be held until
next year, Jan. 8, in the Blyth
Anglician Church. Const. Don
Shoppshall will be the guest
speaker. His topic will be
"Travelling Alone."
