really enjoy seeing that," says Doreen.
In addition to the displays and
demonstrations, there arc alp a number of
pioneer games relays, like three-legged
races, for the youngsters. "It's good old-
fashioned fun. The type of things they
seldom play anymore," says Doreen..
The children who have been involved in
the program over the years have
appreciated the learning experience. "I
have heard words like amazed. They've
expressed surprise and are impressed at
how things used to be."
The task of organizing crafters for the
Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association Reunion, begins months in
advance.
Information and application forms are
sent to all past participants as well as any
new craftspeople whom Jean Fox, craft
co-ordinator, has heard of, as soon as the
date for the next reunion is set.
All applications are returned by the end
of August so the organization of the floor
plan for the tables in the Blyth and District
Community Centre can begin.
Fox requests a picture of the crafts
intended for display to ensure all items are
handcrafted. This also helps in the placing
of displays to create a pleasing
arrangement and a good variation of styles
around the arena.
