Parents of Catholic school age children who are new to Perth and
Huron Counties may register their children on the first day of
school - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1998, 8:45 A.M. - 4:00 P.M., or
during the week of August 31 to September 4, 1998 by contacting
their local school.
KINDERGARTEN children need to be 4 years of age on or before
December 31, 1998. Please bring Birth Certificate, Baptismal

Blyth Mites win 3 enroute to A title
It was a spectacular finish to the
season for the Blyth Mite ball team
as they took the A title in a week-
end tournament held in
Holmesville.
Blyth swept through the first
match-up, defeating Vanastra 22-5.
The boys jumped out early, push-
ing seven home in the first at-bat.
Eric Caldwell got things rolling
with a double, followed by a walk
to Anthony Peters before Darcey
Cook cleared the bases with a
round-tripper.
Jeff Elliott got on base with four
balls'as did Blake Hesselwood,
Justin Ritchie, Nicholas Dale and
Adam &Boer. Cody Bromley sin-
gled.
Vanastra was held off the board
through two and a half while Blyth
notched nine more.
The Hullett Mites ball team out-
slugged their opponents in recent
games, capturing two victories.
They welcomed Goderich Twp.
to the field, Aug. 12, but were unre-
lenting in their attack.
Holding Goderich scoreless in
the first, Hullett plated three in the
bottom of the inning..
However, the defense could not
hold off the opponent as they came
out swinging in the second for
seven runs to take the lead.
With Hullett scoring only two in
the second, Goderich widened their
lead with five more in their next at-
bat.
Down 12-5, Hullett decided to
make up ground in the third when
they slugged for seven runs, includ-
ing a Jon Merner homer.
The Brussels U-7s year-end
tournament play began Tuesday,
Aug. 11 in Brussels.
The Dynomites lost their first
game moving them to the B
division.
Tournament play continued on
Saturday, Aug. 15 in Palmerston.

they participated in the Ontario
Summer Games recently.
Nathan Garland of RR2, Blue-
vale and Chad Foster of Auburn,
both members of the Midget team,
travelled to Guelph with their Juve-
nile counterparts to compete as the
southwestern Ontario entrants in
the summer games.
With young men from an area
stretching between Windsor, Owen
Sound and Kitchener, Audrey Bos,
last year's coach of the F.E. Madill
Secondary School Senior boys' vol-
leyball team, took the squad into
competition believing they had a
shot at a medal.
Peters and Cook homercd in the
second and Caldwell, Elliott, Ben-
jamin Caldwell, Hesselwood,
Ritchie and Dale walked.
In the third, Peters slugged a sin-
gle between singles by E. Caldwell
and Elliott. Hesselwood also tapped
a one-baser.
Vanastra tallied all five runs in
the inning then allowed Blyth to
top up their lead with six in the
fourth.
Walks were taken by Dale,
deBoer, Bromley, the Caldwells,
and Ritchie.
Dale singled and Cook belted a
grand slam.
In the second game of the tourna-
ment, Blyth was victorious over
Goderich Twp. topping them 15-6.
The contest started slowly when,
with two out, Peters walked and
Cook tripled for the inning's only

The hometowners opened the
scoring in the bottom of the first,
with a 7-0 victory. Following the
game hot dogs and cake were
provided for the team players.
A second victory against
Palmerston H placed them in the
"B" division finals. High on
adrenalin, Brussels stormed the
field to take this one 5-2 for the
championship.
Goaltending in the tournament
was shared by Brian Burgess, Ryan

Up 7-1, Blyth only added one in

lead to 8-6.
They stretched it out again in the
fourth when they tallied seven and
kept Goderich Twp. scoreless.
Cook led off with a homerun. B.
Caldwell walked, as did Hessel-
wood before Ritchie doubled.
Walks then went to Dale deBoer
and Elliott, loading them up for a

Bradley Lapp shared time on the

It was a rout for the Hullett
Squirts Girls ball team when they
more than doubled their opponents'
tally.
In the final match-up for the B
title, Hullett took on Stanley Twp.,
Aug. 15, at home.
The offense was strong through-
out the contest, racking up high
totals in each at-bat.
Stanley struck first with seven
runs, only to watch Hullett go
ahead in the bottom of the first with
eight.
The home team grabbed a com-
manding lead through two, after
keeping Stanley off the board and
B. Caldwell, deBoer and Ritchie
took walks in the fourth.
With Cook on the mound, quick
reflexes resulted in a great double
play in Bayfield's final at-bat.
He nabbed a liner back to the
mound then earned the second out
by racing to third when the runner
took off for home, believing the hit
to be a single.
Scorekeeper Glenda Cooper host-
ed a victory party at her home.
