Edgars gather for 50th reunion
Bill and Doreen Taylor have
returned home from a most
enjoyable 19-day trip to England,
Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The
weather was perfect, the people
most hospitable, and the scenery
fantastic.
Some of the points of interest
visited were the home at
Kensington of Princess Diana.
They walked the gardens and there
were three arrangements of fresh
flowers at the gates of Buckingham
Palace. They also saw the changing
of the guard, the Crown Jewels,
London Bridge, Stratford-on-the
Avon and William Shakespeare's
home. At Snowden Mountains in
Wales they had a train ride high
into the mountains, toured the slate
mine riding the original George
Allister and Gladys Gren of
Goderich called on their cousins,
Lewis and Helen Stonehouse.
Marlene Walsh and Eleanor
Campbell visited recently with Jean
Wightman.
Garner and Alice Nicholson
attended a birthday party on
Sunday, July 12 for Garners' 80th
birthday at Elmira. They had dinner
at the Stone Crock Restaurant and
later a gathering at Ray and Cindy,
Victoria and Alexandra Nicholson
at Elmira. Also attending were Ron
and Lynda Nicholson of Barrie,
Rob and Judy Nicholson of
Listowel and Margaret Glyn and
Trevor of Hamilton.
Unable to attend were Dave and
Sherri Mathers, Vancouver,
Jennifer Wide, Vancouver and
Kimberly Wide of Hamilton.
Thomas train, as well as the Irish
ferry.
In Birmingham they attended the
Big Lion International where there
were 25,000 Lion members
registered.
Doreen's sister Dorothy and her
husband Mel Bogie of Goderich
marched in the 81st Lions
International Parade. Their pictures
were in the local paper.
Edinburgh Castle in Scotland
was also visited.
Dublin was peaceful as they
drove through. The 747 plane
which they flew on had 426
passengers, using 10 tons of fuel
per hour, cruising at 500 miles per
hour flying 3,600 feet high. They
learned a lot by visiting the cockpit.
The entire trip was all captured
on their camcorder.
The family presented Garner
with a recliner chair.
Helen Wilson of London and
Betty Irwin, Belgrave enjoyed a
week at a cottage on Lake Huron.
Colleen Irwin and Cindy
McBride of Port Carling recently
visited with Betty Irwin and
attended the 140th celebrations at
Lucknow.
John and Linda Campbell spent
the weekend with Jeremy and
Justin Campbell at Grand Bend.
John and Linda attended the The
Promise, a musical pageant in
Forest.
Jean Cook has returned home
from Wingham and District
Hospital. Friends and neighbours
wish Jean and speedy recovery.
Ruth King and Charles Cook
enjoyed a 15-day bus tour to the
east coast enjoying good weather.
The 50th Edgar Reunion was
held on Sunday, July 12 at the
Edgar family home, residence of
Harvey and Audrey Edgar. There
Jack and Doreen Marks and Jean
Pattison spent last weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Watson at
Forest and attended a musical
pageant on the Life of Christ The
Promise at the Forest
Amphitheatre.
The story, based on the life of
Jesus Christ with its music
comprised of several Dove Award
winning songs, is powerful and
contemporary; the story line is a
compelling one. The script reveals
the message of the scripture.
The musical begins as a present
day grandfather strolls with his
grandchildren along the side of the
river at the foot of the
amphitheatre. As he talks to them
Elly Van Bergen welcomed
worshippers at Knox United
Church on Sunday, July 12.
Children's time centred around
"Reasons and Excuses".
The gospel lesson was taken
from Luke 10: 25-37 and the epistle
lesson from Colossians 1: 1-14.
"The Good Samaritan" was the
basis of the sermon.
East Wawanosh council at its
July 7 meeting increased water
billing for residents of, the
Humphrey Subdivision and
Office/Arena well from $10 per
month to $15 per month retroactive
to May 1.
Councillor James Campbell will
attend the reading of the engineer's
report for the Grasby Municipal
Drain at 9:15 p.m., July 14 at
Morris Township's municipal

were 35 in attendance.
Everyone took part in
reminiscing, updating the family
tree and sharing family pictures.
about the wonders of the past, night
falls and the children beg him to
repeat the story of Jesus.
He does so, in song and
narration. The three are swept into
the actual events of Christ's life and
ministry.
The children and the grandfather
watch in amazement as Jesus heals
the sick, raises the dead and gives
the world his greatest gift.
Since the first year of
performance in Forest in the
summer of 1995, thousands of
people have been thrilled by The
Promise. Each year improvements
have been made to the drama so
story-goers will be thrilled anew at
each viewing.
Joyce Vincent and John Nixon
took up the offering. The
commissioning was read in unison.
On Sunday, July 19 Elly Van
Bergen will be preaching at Calvin
Brick at 10 a.m. There is no service
at Knox and no services at
Presbyterian, Knox or Calvin Brick
United Churches on Sunday, July
26.
After Maitland Edgar gave
Grandpa Edgar's blessing everyone
enjoyed a delicious potluck supper.
The business was chaired by
President, Ina Ireland and
secretary-treasurer, Marion
Mundell.
A minute of silence was observed
in deference to four cousins who
died in the past year. Letters were
read from cousins in Nanaimo, BC
and Sarnia.
The next reunion will be held at
the home of Harvey and Audrey
Edgar on Sunday, July 11. The
president will be Ina Ireland, vice
president is Marie Lamont and
