Valedictorian makes predictions
Continued on page 13
with the same people for so long, I
can almost predict what they might
be doing in their future.
I think that someday Matt
Clarkson will follow in Leonardo
DiCaprio's footsteps; he'll be the
sweetheart that every girl falls for!
I hope Lee is prepared for all the
excitement when he plays his first
world cup soccer game.
Look for Richelle on the best
dressed list every year.
I can see Kendall running for
Canada's prime minister because
she's good at taking control, and
she's very firm.
I'm sure you'll agree that Matt
Kroll will be the Robin Williams of
his generation because of his funny
voices.
Now, Nolan has a tough decision:
to be the CEO of his own business,
or a university professor because
he's the smartest guy I know.
Someday that crazy girl Chrissy
will have taken the place of Bozo
the clown under the Big Top!
In the future, Ryan will be the
guy with the pretty girls hanging off
his arms and funny enough, they'll
all have the same name: "Baby!"
We'll all be able to say "We knew
her when," when Amber becomes a
famous singer.
Lesley's sure to become the
country's hottest radio disc jockey
because she saved up so many
words all these years!
After her modelling career winds
down, Courtney will be a best-
selling story writer.
We'll all be cheering for Andrew
when he competes for Canada when
skateboarding becomes an Olympic
sport.
Someday Chad will become the
world's most famous mad scientist.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sam is
at the front of the line for the first
trips to the moon just because it's
something cool to do.
And you'll find Bryce working in
the office next to Bill Gates at
Microsoft.
As for me; who knows where I'll
be in the future. But at least I know,
because of all the people who have
been my sidekicks over the past
nine years, something good awaits
me.
My mother made a promise to me
when my family moved to Brussels
that I would go to the same school
from kindergarten through Grade 8,
and I feel that it was the best gift
anyone could have given me.
Friends that I have made will be a
part of me forever; and so will the
teachers.
In closing, my final words are that
at Brussels Public School we are
graduating with two very important
things: roots and wings — the roots
have been nurtured and now we'll
use the wings to fly off into our
future.
Thank you.
Student recalls warm fuzzies and cold pricklies
Continued on page 14
to tell us warm fuzzies (translation: nice
things to do and say) or remind us not to use
cold pricklies: bad things to do and say? And
what about recesses when the best thing the
guys could think of to do was to chase the
girls around the playground?
What about Grade 2 with Mrs. Hessels and
her surprise box on your birthday and her,
ketchup sign (in the shape of a ketchup bottle)
which was pasted on the front board every
Friday so we could catch up on the week's
work?
Now, Grade 3. This was an interesting year
for all of us. This year split our class up, some
of us not to be seen until Grade 8 because our
class was too large. Laura, Heather, Amanda
and I were shipped to Mr. Scott, Mrs. Gross
and Mrs. Daer. Most of us were with Ms
Mathers, and when some of us were with Mr.
Fisher, the majority was with Mr. Kerr and
when we were in our first year with Mr.
Bartlett, most were with Mr. Harrison, Mrs.
Daer and Mrs. Webster.
That brings us into Grade 7, when we first
had a glimpse of what our final year would be
like. Everyday around 9:30, our small group
would wander into Mr. Harrison's classroom,
math books in hand.
Let's not forget the Grade 7 class trip to
Niagara Falls. Although, I once again was
unable to attend this trip, I heard stories of the
wonderful times everyone had without me.
Although there are many, the one that I'm
sure pops into everyone's
mind is about our friend
Chad. I'm sure he'll never
forget when the bus driver
had to stop the bus on the side
of a highway to let him go to
the washroom, but then a mile down the road
there was a long row of port-a-potties waiting
to be used.
After a short summer, we wondered into
the familiar school for our final year, Grade 8.
I think we all have to admit this year was
great. A large combination of different
personalities, attitudes and strengths, makes
this a graduating class to be proud of.
Let's start with Paul Walker. Ah, yes, Paul.
Although the class (including Mr. B) didn't
understand what he was talking about half the
time, he did add stimulating and intelligent
comments to our classes.
And what about Paul Dawson? I could
swear he was made from a history text. "How
did you know that!" often rang throughout our
classroom during history class.
Bridget, Amy and Stephanie's love for
books kept everyone on his toes.
Travis Campbell's, Jeremy's and Dan's daily
excuse for unfinished
We can't forget Adam. In one day the entire
class heard Adams say, "I am doing well,"
about 30 times.
Let's not forget Richard and his habit of
forgetting periods and capitals.
As I said earlier, we are a graduating class
to be proud of. We can do anything, with
people excelling in everything from school
sporting events to the Gauss Math contest.
We have gifted students in music, art, science;
gym, history, and math. We should walk out
of the school tonight with our heads held high
and confidence "shining, knowing that we
have worked our hardest at achieving the best
education possible.
But before we leave we have to thank some
very important people in our public school
career: our parents and our teachers. All of
them. Without their encourage-ment, support
and advice we would not be the shining stars
we are today. Thank you for everything.
Friends and classmates we are graduating!
Let's take this experience and embrace it for
all it's worth. Thank you, for the honour to
speak on behalf of our class. Whatever your
future, remember to work hard and give more
than you take, laugh often, and never let
anyone think more highly of you than you do
yourself.
Graduation is a sunset
And a sunrise -
An ending and a beginning.
It is a stepping-stone
From the past,
With all its happy memories,
To the future,
With all its hopeful dreams.
It is the threshold
Of new horizons -
A new time in life
To learn, to explore, to enjoy!
`We're a class homework assignments kept
Mr. B on his toes, and
t o be proud of' Garrett's wizardry in problem
solving left most of the class
baffled.
