Valedictorian takes time to reminisce
By Kristyn Gerth
For years we've waited and
watched as generations of grads
bought fancy outfits, said their
farewell speeches and headed off to
high school. We
watched patiently
from younger
classes and when
the end of the year
rolled around we
would say, "Only
a few more years
until that's us."
Well, now it is.
Believe it or not
we bought the
fancy clothes and
we will say our speeches and soon
will be off to the place we've been
longing to go our entire public
school career.
But before we go we must
reminisce. Reminisce about the
wonderful nine years that have
slipped away quickly from our tiny
hands.
Let's start with kindergarten. Ah,
yes, the good old years. Although I
didn't move here until Grade 1, I
have heard my fair share of stories.
Let me start with lunch times. Yes,
if I say bologna and ham
sandwiches does that trigger any
memories? What about Laura,
Heather, bologna and ham.
Anything? Well, I must say I've
heard this story about a hundred
times.
In kindergarten, Laura and
Heather were in the same class.
Both brought the same sandwich to
school everyday. Heather's was
bologna and Laura's was ham.
Neither liked her sandwiches but
both liked the other's. So what did
they do? Switched. Nothing
harmful, until, that is, Mrs. Wilson
found out.
Instead of listening to their
teacher and eating their own
lunches, they broke out in a
rebellion and continued to switch.
Well, when Mrs. Wilson found out
about this, it was the end of the
rebellion. Both were sent off to
chairs in opposite sides of the room,
where they would stay until they
had learned how to eat their own
lunches. To this day Laura and
Heather blame this incident on the
reason they were split up in Grade
1.
Since we are on the topic, wasn't
Grade I fun? Remember Mrs.
Bridges and her fuzzy bunny hand
puppet that was used every morning
