Students earn honours
It was an evening for celebrating
and rewards as the graduating class
of East Wawanosh Public School
received honours at the June 23
ceremony.
Awards in the individual subjects
went to: Paul Walker, math and sci-
ence; Heather Black, history, geog-
raphy, English and French; Amy
Barnes, music and art; Laura
Meier, top female athlete; Craig
Marks, top male athlete and Amber
Koehler, citizenship.
The general proficiency award
was given to Kristyn Gerth, who
was also named valedictorian,
while Heather Black received the
academic proficiency award.
Coulteses visit Alaska
Noreen Gnay and Susan
Robinson greeted worshippers and
handed out the service of worship
at Knox United Church on Sunday,
June 28. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden
welcomed everyone.
The senor choir sang Look Down
O Lord and Watch Over Me,
accompanied by Elizabeth Procter
on the piano.

The 53rd annual Nethery-
Leishman reunion was held on
Sunday, June 28 at the Community
Hall, Londesboro with 40 signing
the register.
Guests were present from India,
Calgary, Alberta, Forest, Kingston,
Kitchener, Waterloo, Goderich,
Holmesville, Clinton, Brussels,
Bluevale, Blyth, Belgrave and the
surrounding district.
Ella Ives of Blyth was in charge
of the sports and contests which
were enjoyed by all.
Following the supper hour,
President Brian Potter of RR 1,
Two closely-matched squads met
on the Brussels soccer field, June
29, when the Newton U-9 Its came
to town.
Strong effort by everyone kept

Bechtel helped keep the Blyth
Mosquitoes II soccer team in the
game when they took on Goderich
McDonalds, June 25.
The Walton Mites Boys played
Belgrave, June 29 at home and
trounced them 18-10.
Derrick Wolfe led the offense
with two homers, while Chris
Regele hit a double. Kyle McNi-
chol and ,Chris Holmes each had
two singles.
The skyrockets were for the other
51-62,
The sermon was based on
'Discipleship'.
Ross Higgins and Paul Walker
took up the offering.
A joint service was held Sunday,
July 5 at Belgrave United Church
with members of Calvin Brick and
the Presbyterian Church.
Elizabeth Procter, organist,
accompanied the choir as they sang
Beulah Land.
Belgrave, conducted the meeting.
He announced the deaths during the
past year: Jack Van Camp, Norma
Nethery, John Knox, Cheryl Lynn
Allan, Robert C. Brooks, Rev.
Milton H. Lockwood, Donald
Clark, Greta Teeter and Lorn H.
Fuller. A few moments' silence
followed in remembrance.
Special prizes were awarded to:
oldest person present, Ruth Fisher
of Clinton; person coming the
farthest, Philip Melville of India;
most recently married couple,
Kenneth and Dianne Siertsema of
RR 3, Blyth; birthday nearest June
the opponents at bay and ties the
game at three.
All Brussels' scores were tallied
by Scott Somerville.
Goaltending was shared by
Andrew Baker, Shayne Cochrane
and Aaron Berlet-Kuntz.
Bechtel scored both Blyth goals
in the 3-2 loss. Lee Prescott assist-
ed on the first netter.
In goal for Blyth was Jesse
Hakkers, then Jamie Ross.

It was a good night for Adam
McClure who belted a double and a
single. Andrew Elliott and Justin
Beisinger, Holmes and Blake
Miller each singled.
Brussels offense was led by two

Rev. Cathrine Campbell, using
the order of service of the
Presbyterian Church, conducted the
service. The topic was Gardens and
Harvests. She spoke of gardening
and its benefits, the garden of
spiritual benefits and reaping what
is sown.
"Jesus the Master Gardener sent
people out spreading the seed of the
Good Word. The Word of the Lord
brought forth Joy and a bountiful
harvest."

jar, Anna Mae Fisher of RR 2,
Clinton; guessing the records from
the Guinness Book of Records was
Lawerance Owens of Calgary,
Alberta and John Gallagher of
Kitchener.
The 1999 Nethery-Leishman
reunion will be held on June 27 at
Londesboro. President for next year
is Larry Johnston of Holmesville
and secretary-treasurer is Mary
Isabel Nethery of Belgrave.
The reunion closed by singing
Auld Lang Syne.
On Monday, June 29, Brussels
U-9 I took on Brussels II at the
Brussels Public School and came
away with a victorious 2-0 score.
In net for this game were Jill
Bridge, Kayla Bishop and Chris
Jutzi.
Gordon and Louise Bosman have
returned home from visiting
western relatives. Gordon's brother
Harold is a patient in an Edmonton
hospital after suffering a stroke.
They also visited Louise's sister
Agatha, a patient at Lynwood
Extended Health Care Centre. They
spent the weekend with their son
Clayton and friend Debbie Wilson
at Prince George, British Columbia.
Bill and Muriel Coultes have
returned from a cruise of the Inside
Passage to Alaska and visiting with
friends in the Vancouver area.
During the trip they panned for
gold at Juneau, toured Skagway
and the White Pass.
As the ship sailed into Glacier
Bay the weather was beautiful and
they watched as pieces of the
glacier broke off and fell into the
bay.
Ketchican is a small town on the
side of the mountains which gets
12 sunny days each year and 162"
of rain. Their visit was on one of
the sunny days.
On their return to Vancouver
they were met by friends who took
them to visit with Rev. and Mrs.
Stuart MacLeod of Whiterock. Rev.
MacLeod had performed their
marriage ceremony 40 years ago in
Stratford.
They also had a ride on the
Skytrain from Surrey to Canada
Place and the seaship across the
harbour to the market and back.
While they were away they
learned that their granddaughter
Lisa Matheson had graduated from
Brussels II were true competitors
and made it really tough for
Brussels I teammates Chelsey
McLellan and Wade Stephenson to
score.
Both teams played very well and
showed a marked improvement in
their skills.
Wallace Public School in
Gowanstown with several awards.
She received a medal for being on
the honour roll; the award for
obtaining the highest mark in
science for a female, the Derek
Ward award for academic
proficiency and the Janet Kobs
award for the all around best
student.
Lisa is the daughter of Mark and
Janice Matheson. Congratulations
Lisa.
Frances Holland of Kincardine
and Harvey Edgar visited last
Friday afternoon with Lewis and
Helen Stonehouse.
Jim Lamont has returned home
from Victoria Hospital after his
recent surgery. Friends and
neighbours wish Jim a speedy
recovery.
