Jenny Skinn was on the mound for the first four Ethel batters before taking a direct hit in the forehead which required stitches. A bit preoccupied by the incident and continuing a player short, Bel- grave seemed to lose confidence for a time, said Coach Mary Sanders. They gave up eight runs in the first and nine in the second while only scoring eight of their own. The Brewers opened the scoring in their half of the first as Brad Knight scored Jeff Robinson, who had singled to lead off the game. The visitors added to their lead in the second as Doug Dietz scored Rick McDonald to make the score 2-0 after two. The Tigers bat showed signs of rust as Walton starter Terry Elligsen was perfect through four innings. The Tigers broke up Elligsen's no-hit bid in the fifth as Doug Conley slapped a single to lead off the inning, and one out later scored on Tim Fritz's inside the park homer to left to knot the score at two. With Cook on the mound, he held the opponent scoreless allow- ing Blyth to hold a 5-0 lead mid- way through the third. A hit by Cook and walks to both Caldwells loaded the bases for Derek Youngblut. Though out on a fielder's choice, Youngblut earned three RBIs on the play. Walks to Justin Ritchie and Hes- selwood were left on base. Hullett Squirts victorious Some hot bats led the Hullett Squirt Girls to a 26-10 victory over Seaforth, June 30. The offense was led by a Becky Bylsma grand slam to cash in half of the first inning runs. Kelly Ann Vandendool pitched flawlessly in the first three innings, allowing just one run, while her teammates scored a total of 14. Dawn Dolmage took over pitch- ing in the fourth. Four runs crossed the plate, while Hullett scored five in their half. Bylsma allowed five runs in the fifth inning, when she stepped on the mound, but another big inning for Hullett with seven runners crossing the plate, kept their hosts at bay. top of the seventh as McDonald homered to lead off the inning to make the score 3-2 Walton. The Tigers continued their season with a trip to Lieury, June 30. The Tigers got hitting from the entire lineup and came home with a 8-0 shutout of the Jets. The Tigers got on the board in the first inning as Uhrig lined a the inning, Walton allowed four runs. McDonald shut them down with two strikeouts. With Mandy Mitchell on first due to a missed third-strike catch, Jessi- ca Lubbers and McDonald singled to load the bases. A double from Gibbons earned her two RBIs as Mitchell and Lub- bers scored. Cook followed up with another double, pushing McDonald and Gibbons home. A snappy two-base hit from Krista Shortreed put Walton ahead 9-4. Melissa Beuermann walked and 'Bayfield began a comeback, smashing four in the bottom of the third, though Cook slowed the attack when he snagged a pop fly. Blyth widened the margin in the fourth with three more runs off a ' homer to right, scoring Moe Pipe in front of him for a 2-0 lead. The visitors were counting again in the second as Doug Shaw scored Brett Clarkson with a ground out. Fritz plated Greg Fritz with an RBI double to lead 4-0 after two innings. In the fourth Shaw lined a single over short to bring home Strome and Clarkson who had both singled to open the inning. The Tigers closed out the scoring in the fifth as Conley led off with a standup triple. Strome cashed in Conley with his second hit of the night. Greg Fritz then scored Strome with a solid single to left. For the Tigers Shaw, Clarkson, Strome and Greg Fritz were all two for three at the dish. Uhrig went the distance whiffing eight. Next action for the Tigers is at home Friday night against the Goderich Gardiners. Missy Souch singled though Beuer- mann was tagged out at third on the play. McDonald earned two strikeouts then tagged a runner going home to allow only one run in the inning. Walton added four runs in the third on the strength of a homer from McDonald and Cook and a single from McClure. Cook took the mound for the bot- tom of the third, allowing three runs and earning three strikeouts. After scoring two in the fourth, Walton led 16-8, but the defense fell apart in the bottom of the inning, allowing 12 runs. Walton took the 20-16 loss. double by Anthony Peters, a home- run from Cook and a double by Eric Caldwell. Benjamin Caldwell added a walk.
