Tigers back in action
It was a hard blow for the Bel-
grave Pee Wee Girls as they took on
Ethel, June 29.
Jenny Skinn was on the mound
for the first four Ethel batters
before taking a direct hit in the
forehead which required stitches.
A bit preoccupied by the incident
and continuing a player short, Bel-
grave seemed to lose confidence
for a time, said Coach Mary
Sanders.
They gave up eight runs in the
first and nine in the second while
only scoring eight of their own.
Jenni Hopf smashed a homerun
to start off their first at-bat, fol-
lowed by a triple from Sherri Ross
and singles from Charlene Bromley
It was a hot night in the ol' town
on the night of June 24 for the
Kiddie Kickers to play in Brussels.
The little athletes still wanted to
kick though, but the wisdom of'
parents, ref and coaches prevailed
and it was a short game.
Annamieka Kerkhof started in
the Wolves net and Danny Donkers
was in the Bears net when Wolves,
Eric Vellenga, first-year player,
scored his first goal. The next

Bromley began the action in the
second with a walk before Nixon
singled and hits from Erin Sanders
and a walk to North pushed runs
home.
Down 18-8 going into the bottom
of the third, the squad made a
valiant comeback effort, pushing in
nine runs to finish one shy of a tie.
Batting around in the inning, runs
were scored by 1-lopf, Ross, Brom-

A salad supper was served by the
Brussels Club between the second
and third game.
After a two-week layoff the
Brussels Tigers resumed their
Huron County fastball league play
with a Friday night matchup with
the Walton Brewers.
The Brewers opened the scoring
in their half of the first as Brad
Knight scored Jeff Robinson, who
had singled to lead off the game.
The visitors added to their lead in
the second as Doug Dietz scored
Rick McDonald to make the score
2-0 after two.
The Tigers bat showed signs of
rust as Walton starter Terry
Elligsen was perfect through four
innings.
The Tigers broke up Elligsen's
no-hit bid in the fifth as Doug
Conley slapped a single to lead off
the inning, and one out later scored
on Tim Fritz's inside the park

two.
Walton regained the lead in the
Though smashing 16 hits, the
Walton Squirt Girls were defeated
by a hard-slugging Listowel squad,
June 29.
Taking to the plate first, Walton
put two players on quickly when
they outran the catcher on missed
catches of the third strikes.
Jen McClure belted a double to
score Sarah McDonald and Crystal

selwood were left on base.
Hullett Squirts
victorious
Some hot bats led the Hullett
Squirt Girls to a 26-10 victory over
Seaforth, June 30.
The offense was led by a Becky
Bylsma grand slam to cash in half
of the first inning runs.
Kelly Ann Vandendool pitched
flawlessly in the first three innings,
allowing just one run, while her
teammates scored a total of 14.
Dawn Dolmage took over pitch-
ing in the fourth. Four runs crossed
the plate, while Hullett scored five
in their half.
Bylsma allowed five runs in the
fifth inning, when she stepped on
the mound, but another big inning
for Hullett with seven runners
crossing the plate, kept their hosts
at bay.

homered to lead off the inning to
make the score 3-2 Walton.
The home side mounted a rally
and tied the game in their last at
bat. With one out Fritz doubled and
went to third on a Ron Strome
infield single. Shaw then singled
softly to left to score Fritz with the
tying run.
For the Tigers, Fritz was two for
; three. Conley and Todd Uhrig
shared the pitching duties and
fanned five brewers.
The game ended in controversy
on whether the game should end in
a tie or if the tie should be broken
using the international tie breaking
rule as done last season.
The Tigers continued their
season with a trip to Lieury, June
30. The Tigers got hitting from the
entire lineup and came home with a
