In spite of homers from Bradley Lapp, Josh Nurse and Joel Salver- da, all in the fourth, Londesboro could not mount a consistent attack against the strong hitting Colborne players. It was a very busy week for the Blyth II Mosquitoes as they met Lucknow Legion, June 18, then, combined with Blyth I Mosquitoes for a Wingham tournament, June 20. Lucknow Legion held the team scoreless while putting four past the Blyth goalies. Sharing time between the posts were Jesse Hakkers and Gregg Bechtel. With a mixed squad of Blyth I and II players, the team took on Wingham in their first game, Satur- lay morning. Blyth Mosquitoes in tourney With the players struggling at the plate, the Belgrave Mite Boys were downed by Gowanstown, 17-10, June 16. Belgrave Mites down Gowanstown Off to a three-run lead in the After ending regulation time in a 0-0 tie, Bechtel and Hakkers scored in a shoot-out to earn Blyth a 2-1 win. On the strength of two goals by Cody Anderson and one from Bechtel, Blyth took their second match 3-0. Assists went to Raymond deBoer (three), Lee Prescott and J.J. Hub- bard (two). Advancing to the final, Blyth met a tough Exeter squad, who nipped them 3-1. Blyth's lone goal was scored off a corner kick from Bechtel to Mike first, Belgrave allowed five when Gowanstown stepped up. Behind 12-3 after two innings, Belgrave began to hit in the. third, led by a grand slam off the bat of Mark McCracken. Moore then Prescott. Matthew Bylsma and Hakkers shared goalkeeping duties through- out the tournament. Blyth placed second overall in this division. The mixed team consisted of Kyle Irving, Lee Prescott, Korey Machan, Matthew Bylsma, Jesse Hakkers, Gregg Bechtel, Raymond deBoer, Mike Moore, J.C, Beacom, J.J. Hubbard, Brad Bouman, Steven Van Amersfoort, Cody Anderson and Sean Laffin. Herb Van Amers- foort, Nancy Hakkers and Lisa deGans coached. Coach Patti Nixon said, "Though struggling with the bat, the boys are giving their best. Trev Hopf contin- ues to show consistency with his batting and can always earn a cou- ple RBIs on a hit." Belgrave PeeWee Girls were trounced, June 15, by the Brussels squad when they took to the field at home. Brussels got off to a quick start, pushing the limit of seven runs home in the first then held Belgrave scoreless before adding seven more in the top of the second. In their fourth contest of the sea- son, the Walton Squirt Girls took their record to 1-2-1. The Squirt Girls met a skilled Gowanstown team and came up on the short end of a 22-7 loss. Gowanstown stepped to the plate first, pushing seven home, around two strikeouts from Walton pitcher Sarah McDonald. Heather Dietz led-off for Walton, tapping a single, followed by hits from Krista Shortreed, McDonald, Ashley Halley and Melissa Beuer- man. Mandy Mitchell and Michelle Cook earned walks. Jennifer Mc- Clure made it to first on a missed catch on the third strike. With a couple outs on the pads and runners stranded, Walton earned five runs. Gowanstown widened their lead with seven in the second, though nice outs by the Squirts helped their cause. A run by Lindsay to home stopped more runs from scoring and a good stop by Megan Miners at third slowed the play. Singles from Lindsay, Quesen- berry, and Keffer set the table for an RBI from McLean, in the third. A nubber back to the mound was tagged for a quick toss to first. Lub- bers finished the second leg of the play with a throw to home to beat the runner from third. Lubbers and McClure collided in the final out of the inning as both players went after a fly ball. In spite of the hit, Lubbers held onto the ball. In earlier play, Walton lost to Ethel 16-14, tied Brussels at 16 and topped Listowel 24-15. when Belgrave was nets to only two runs. Two outs were made at second. Brussels bats fired up in the fourth, tallying five but suffering an 18-9 loss. Becker began the rebound with a single, followed by singles from Lichty, Stretton, Pipe, Lindsay, Quesenberry, Keffer, McLean and Marissa Pipe.
