There was a lot of kicking at the
Brussels arena game between the
Wolves and the Panthers U-6
teams, June 11. The players were
following right after the ball and all
giving it their best efforts.
Trista Deitner tried her best at
stopping balls into the Panthers'
net, but good kicking from Blake
Cardiff resulted in the Wolves' first
goal of the game.
Shortly thereafter, Jolanda Smith
made some good stops on net, but
Vicki Blake's travelling and
kicking resulted in the second
Wolves' goal.
In the second half, Randy Zwep's
persistence paid off when after two
close scores stopped ably by
Meagan Higgins, he finally
managed to put his third kick in
past her, creating the first goal for
the Panthers. The action continued
in front of the Wolves net, but
goalkeeper Annamieka Kerkhof
worked hard preventing any of the
many kicks from getting in past
her.
Blake again engaged in some
awesome kicking and was able to
sneak a goal in past Morgan
Deitner.
The game ended with lots of
action in front of the Wolves net,
allowing the Panthers goalkeeper,
Robert Cronin to rest and watch.
Meanwhile Wolves goalkeeper,
Ty Sebastian was kept running to
save any incoming balls to the
Wolves net resulting in a final
score of Wolves - 3, Panthers - 1.
Game five for the Panthers was
against the Bears at the arena on
Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m.
A game between the Brussels
Sharks and Wolves involved a lot
of running and kicking from both
ends of the field. All of the children
tried their best, but only one team
was able to score. The Sharks got
4.
What was evident though, was
great team effort on both teams.
Nick Gowing was first in net for
the Wolves and he made two great
saves. Blake Cardiff was next. He
made a great save from an
awesome kick by the Sharks' Scott
Sippel. Laurelita MacAldaz
managed to sneak one by him
though.
Ty Sebastian was the next
In exhibition play, June 15, the
Brussels Pre-Mites were doubled
by a strong Belgrave squad.
Belgrave jumped out to an early
lead, with eight runs, and never
looked back.
Two homeruns, two doubles and
five singles were tallied in the first
at-bat.
With Dustin Lichty leading off
the Brussels attack, he singled,
before being tagged out when
Brendan Stretton hit a double.
Justin Pipe singled, pushing
Stretton to third, but was out on a
The Bears started off the game
with a powerful goal on the
Panthers. However, Holly Sholdice
didn't let this slow her down as she
made some great saves in net.
In the Panthers' net was Jason
Warwick who made two amazing
stops. Brody Wright, defense, did a
great job.
During this first half of the game
Gavin Bowers did a great job at
covering the Bears.
Brenda Stretton scored the Bears'
second goal despite the Panthers
skillful efforts.
The ball was swiftly taken to the
Bears' end by Randy Zwep of the
Panthers.
Dalton Hamilton had a great first
half playing a large area.
The Bears, No. 18 Rebecca
Nichols, took a penalty shot on the
Panthers' net which didn't result in
another goal.
Morgan Deitner took the ball to
the Bears end where Ryan Baker,
in net for the Bears had a powerful
kick. This brought the game to
halftime.
The second half started with
excellent defense for the Bears by
Alexandria McDonald. Excellent
retaliation was shown by Natalie
White. No goal resulted from this
due to Cole McLean's skillful save
in the Bears' net.
Trevor Raynard and Robert
Cronin worked well as a team
going for the Bear's net. It was
Randy Zwep who finally got a goal
for the Panthers.
Jolanda Smith ended the game
with a fantastic save in the
Panthers' net. The final score was
2-1 for the Bears.
Wolves' goalie. He stopped one
from Alyssa Thyssen, but Westin
McLeod was able to score.
The second half of the game had
Daniel Sippel in the Sharks' net and
Matthew Cardiff in the Wolves'
net. He made a great save on Scott
Sippel's first kick but his second
kick scored the third goal of the
game. During Annamieka
Kerkhofs turn in the Wolves' net,
she did some fancy ball stopping
but McLeod's fancy footwork
netted him his second goal of the
game.

single tapped by Andrew Lindsay.
Lindsay earned the RBI as Stret-
ton crossed the plate.
Singles from Bradley Quesenber-
ry, and Meagan Keffer set up the
RBI single from Cole McLean as
Lindsay went home.
Up 8-2, Belgrave added three in
the second with two singles and a
homer.
With two strikesouts to begin the
second, Brussels got going when a
double from Christopher Becker
was followed by a single from

U-11 - H.
Brussels player Andrew
McDonald scored seconds into the
game on the first of several nifty
passing plays initiated throughout
the game by Blake Griffiths.
Listowel quickly turned the tide,
scoring three unanswered goals by
the end of the first half, then adding
a fourth early in the second.
Through hard work and
persistence the B2s finally found
their scoring touch and came back

one by Steven "Petey" McNichol
and two by Greg Bowers. The
game stayed tied until with two
minutes left the visitors scored the
winner on a goal mouth scramble
following a corner kick. The final
score was Listowel 5, Brussels 4.
The previous week (June 9) the
B2s had travelled to Newry to meet
the Elma I team. Elma scored first,
but Brussels came back later in the
half to even the score at one each

the edge in play through most of
the game with a superior positional
game but were repeatedly turned
back by strong goaltending of the
Brussels keepers Andrew
McDonald and Doug Schnocic
As well, excellent play by Mitch
Blake and Candice McLellan
helped to keep the score even until
late in the game when Elma scored
three times, resulting in a final
score of Elma 4, Brussels 1.
