South Africa at the conference. The
South African Director General of
Agriculture Bongi Njobe-Mbuli
noted that South Africa has a
constitution that promotes the right
of women_ to take their place in the
economic system of the country.
She challenged women to be
confident enough to achieve the
goals they set for themselves and
their organizations.
Dr. David Molapo, founder of the
ICAN Foundation, presented a
dynamic message regarding youth.
"I" means insight, instilling hope
and dreaming, "C" means
committed to the five freedoms —
political, psychological, academic,
economic and spiritual, "A" means
assume responsibility and "N"
means never give up, do not abhort
a dream.
A new aspect of this conference
was the donation of approximately
1,100 children's storybooks to the
school system in Pretoria. Each
delegate was asked to bring a book
from her country of origin. These
books were presented to the
children during the proceedings.
The eradication of illiteracy is one
of the challenges ACWW members
have undertaken.
The Associated Country Women
of the World was formed by
Canadian Madge Watt in 1933. It
continues as an organization which
builds on the traditional values of
family life, promotes international
goodwill and understanding and
helps women communicate their
views to decision-makers locally,
nationally and internationally.
