Officer talks to seniors about scams
Thirty diners enjoyed a
wonderful chicken dinner at the
Dining Out for Senior Program
held. June 11 at the Brussels United
Church.
Joan Van der Meer, co-ordinator,
welcomed all present. Ruth Sauve
led in singing Grace. Joan
conducted the contests, including
the 50/50 draw won by Jane
DeVries and the door prize won by
Brenda Schuler.
Birthday wishes were sung to
Brenda Schuler who was presented
with a basket of flowers by her
friend Isabel Gravette. A bouquet
of deep red carnations was
presented to Spence and Nelva
Scott who celebrated their 40th
anniversary.
Joan brought pictures from the
Easter Parade Program and pictures
from Leah's wedding.
The Brussels Public School
student was Scott and our "life-
saver" was Patty Harrison. Thanks
for the help. •
The guest speaker was Don
Shropshall of the Ontario
Provincial Police who spoke on a
variety of SCAMS, including
telephone and mail and bank
machines. He said not to give out
credit card numbers or bank
account numbers over the phone
and only use the post office box
number, not the home address. This
way the SCAM artists can't find the
house as easily.

The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge No. 315
Brussels took place on June 9 at 8
p.m. with Noble Grand Sister
Lorraine Edwards presiding. This
was a very special meeting at

On June 2, 1933, five Oddfellows
and five women presented
themselves as candidates for a
charter to institute a Rebekah
OPP carry, including a badge and a
card with their name, number and
picture.
It seems that seniors living along

Members were honoured at the
65th birthday celebration to have
with them Sister Retta Hoover, the
last surviving charter member.
Sister Retta was presented with her
