Brussels Livestock report
All stockers classes sell on steady market
The sales at Brussels Livestock
for the week ending March 20
were: fed cattle, 740; cows, 255;
veal and bob calves, 288; lambs
and goats, 339; stockers, 1,790.
The choice and exotic fed steers
and heifers sold on a steady trade,
with the second cut selling on a
lower market. The cows sold
steady. Veal sold on a good active
trade, with lambs selling fully
steady. All classes of stockers sold
on a steady trade.
There were 330 steers on offer
selling from $88 to $94 to the high
of $102.50. Fifteen steers
consigned by Jack Culbert,
Dungannon, averaging 1,337 lbs.
sold for an average of $92.18 with
a charolais steer weighing 1,275
lbs. selling for $102.50 to Norwich
Packers. Twenty-three steers
consigned by Jim Howatt,
Londesboro, averaging 1,488 lbs.
sold for an average of $95.61 with
sales to $102.50.
Nine steers consigned by Brian
Bearss, St. Marys, averaging 1,366
lbs. sold for an average of $94.76
with sales to $99.75. Twenty-seven

The Blyth Atoms captured the B
title in tournament play in Bayfield
this past weekend.
The Bulldogs took on the home-
town squad at 7:30 a.m., March 20,
and found themselves trailing 3-1
by the end of the second period.
Blyth mounted a strong come-
back attempt in the third, blasting
three shots over the line in just over
three minutes to take the lead for
the first time.
However, the defense was unable
to hold off their opponent as Bay-
field scored twice in the last two
minutes of the match, winning 5-4.
Blyth goals were scored by Tyler
Kernighan, Brett Bean, Nathan
Witherspoon and Kendall Whit-
field.
Assists went to Kyle Nixon,
Cody Anderson, Darren Austin,
Kernighan and Bean.
Anderson was named MVP.
In their second game, Blyth met
Tilbury with more favourable
results.
With strong netminding by Jeff
Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,431 lbs.
sold for an average of $92.88 with
sales to $98.75.

There were 399 heifers on offer
selling from $88 to $94 to the high
of $100. Eighteen heifers
consigned by Johnston Farms,
Bluevale, averaging 1,136 lbs. sold
for an average of $91.97 with a
charolais heifer weighing 1,015 lbs.
Elliott and goals scored by Ander-
son and Bean, Blyth earned a 2-0
win.
Witherspoon, Austin and Ander-
son assisted on the goals.
Elliott was named MVP for game
two.
The final contest of the tourna-
ment turned out to be a thriller,
with sudden death overtime and a
goal recalled.
Elora, who scored at 7:10 of the
first, was able to hold off Blyth
until 6:48 of the second when
Kernighan, assisted by Ryan
McClinchey, bulged the twine.
Austin and Anderson followed
up with two netters in three minutes
to put Blyth ahead 3-1.
Anderson, Kernighan, Austin and
Bean assisted.
However, Elora rebounded pop-
ping in two in the third to tie the
game with only 1:26 remaining.
Midway through the 10-minute
sudden death overtime period, with
no goalies, Blyth was shorthanded
