The Blyth Bantam Bulldogs were on top of their Tiverton opponents as they skated to victory
on Wednesday night, to give themselves a two game lead in the WOAA hockey series final.
Feb. 18 was a solid win for the home squad who trounced Tiverton 6-1.

Blyth Bantams
break out in series
The Blyth Bantam hockey squad
has opened a two-game lead in the
WOAA final series against
Tiverton.
Blyth opened the series on the
road in Tiverton on Monday, Feb.
16. Blyth jumped into a 4-0 lead
early in the second period, however
Tiverton bounced back with two
goals to cut the lead to 4-2 at the
end of the second.
The Bulldogs sealed the victory
with fin unanswered goals in the
third for a 9-2 win.
Bulldog scorers were Shawn
Bromley with two; Dave Ansley
with two; Tyler Stewart, Matt
Anderson, Derek Cook, Nathan
Shannon and Mike Bernard. Assists
went to Adam Anderson, M.
As the Brussels Bantams contin-
ue their WOAA playoff series, they
remain neck-and-neck with Clinton
in the race for six overall points.
Brussels was down a game going
into the Feb. 17 contest in Clinton.
Though the opponent scored first,
Brussels bounced back in the sec-
ond period with three goals to take
a 3-2 lead.
-Joel Kellington score the first for
Brussels, unassisted, at 12:59 then
popped in the second netter almost
nine minutes later with the help of
Andy VanBeek.
Kellington and Chad Fischer
assisted on the go-ahead goal
which was put between the posts by
Matt McLellan.
Brussels went up by two in the
third off a shot by Chris Blake.
Steve Todd earned the assist.
Though Clinton attempted a
Anderson and Cook, all with two;
Stewart, Craig Marks, Bromley,
Joel Arthur, Ansley, Bryce Toll and
Bernard.
Dean Wilson.played a solid game
in the Blyth net.
Blyth was back at home on
Wednesday, Feb. 18 for game two.
The Bulldogs scored three first
period goals and held Tiverton to
few scoring chances to post a 6-1
victory. M. Anderson scored twice
for Blyth with singles going to
Marks, Bernard, Darrell
McDougall and A. Anderson.

Anderson and Stewart with two
each, Ansley and Graham Worse11.
The Bantam Bulldogs can wrap
up the series with a win Monday,
Feb. 23 in Tiverton at 8:30.

When the two teams met again in
Clinton, Feb. 21, Brussels got off to
a fast start with four goals in the
first. Clinton managed two.
Brussels scorers were Todd,
McLellan and two for Fischer.
Assisting on the Fischer goals were
Ryan Mahwhinney and Jason Arm-
strong.
The visitors held a 5-2 lead after
a second period netter by Todd,
assisted by Armstrong, but were
unable to hold it.
Clinton bulged the twine three
times in the third, the final with just
over three seconds remaining, to
tie the match.
The teams, tied with three points
each, will meet again Feb. 25, in
Brussels, at 8:30 p.m.

The Novice Rep team played a
couple of exhibition games on the
weekend while waiting to start the
next round of playoffs with
Drayton.
Friday night, Brussels travelled
to Milverton and managed to defeat
them with a score of 5-0. Adam
McClure scored a hat-trick on
passes from Matt White and Greg
Bowers. White and Bowers each
scored once on passes from each
other.
Saturday afternoon, Brussels
travelled to Wingham and once
again ended the game against them
in a tie. Wingham got a quick
scoring start when Doig scored two
goals from the blue line in the first
period.
Patrick Gowing added another
goal in the second period to take a
3-0 lead. Chris Corbett scored an
unassisted goal for Brussels in the
second period.
Doig scored a third goal in the
third period before Brussels turned
the game around in their favour.
Christopher Jutzi scored on a pass
from Cory Chapman and Corbett.
Corbett scored on a pass from
Jordan Campbell and Jutzi. Corbett
once again got by their strong
defenseman and scored on a pass
4om Chase Chapman. Adam
Corbett took action and scored
from the blue line an a pass from
his brother Chris and Cory
Chapman.
The score was 5-4 in Brussels'
favour but Wingham's forward
Cowing, managed to tie the game
with a couple of minutes left and
neither team was able to break the
tie.
Brussels Novices meet up with
Drayton on Monday night and will
probably play the second game on
Friday night in Brussels at 6:30.
