Blyth council briefs Wheels Away increases $3 per ride Wheels Away President Vicki Piluke attended the Feb. 17 session of council to discuss funding for the year. With the annual contract up for renewal, Piluke said the base rate of $241 would remain the same though she asked council to support a per ride fee increase from $2 to $3 as provincial funding had been eliminated. Funds would also be made up through fundraising and foundation grants. Council accepted the increased fee rate and asked that the contract be drawn. *** Blyth People The lost heir results for Feb. 18 were: high brown card, Ferne McDowell; high blue card, Lawrence Plaetzer; low brown card, Mary Tumbull; low blue card, Graeme McDowell. Lost heir will be held Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Hall. The village's resolution with regards to education taxes being removed from all property was passed in spite of ROMA's execu- tive recommending non-support. A barbecue, in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations at Knechtel's grocery store, raised funds for the Sunshine Foundation. In addition to a $500 donation from the Lions all proceeds from the barbecue went to the Founda- tion which strives to make dreams come true for special children who are chellenged by life-threatening illness or severe physical disability. NOTICE COUNTRY FEST 1995 To all participants in Country Fest 1995, it has been proposed that the balance of money raised be turned over to the Blyth Greenway Project. Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart was authorized to sign the Commu- nity Access Project agreement. *** Nesbitt informed council that the Blyth and District Community Centre board committee looking into a permanent license for the facility had decided not to proceed with the plan. *** Councillor Jeff Howson advised council that an appeal with regards to the Dyk Drain assessment had been heard by a court of revision and denied. *5* Interim tax bills have been mailed, with due dates of March 26 and June 26. Gotcha! The Blyth Public School silent auction got some entertainment Friday night, when Chris Courtney, right, followed up a dare and gave the pie she had purchased to her sister Fran Cook.
