The two teams met Feb. 14 as part of the Belgrave Girls' fundraising morning of hockey and breakfast. Belgrave won 6-4. 'D' Convert To Natural Gas NOW We Make It Easy With Natural gas furnaces The Blyth Midget Bulldogs playoff season is about to begin as they prepare to open the OMHA semi-final series against Walpole Island. The Midgets have been honing their game at recent practices and are ready for game action. Walpole Island hosts the first game of the best three out of five series this Sunday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will host game two of the series the following weekend at the Blyth and District Community Centre on either Saturday, Feb. 28 or Sunday, March 1, with full series details to follow. Not much is known about the Walpole Island team but chances are the series will be a hard-hitting, fast-skating affair. Bulldog management-agrees that the secret to Blyth's success will depend largely on their skating and passing skills being able to overcome what will surely be a rugged Walpole Island team. In the meantime, the Bulldogs have been busy fundraising for their upcoming Montreal 'Canadian Cup' tournament trip on April 2 - 5. Manager Allan Craig, who is organizing the trip on behalf of the Bulldogs, has been busy looking after all the details including tournament registration, booking accommodations as well as ordering tickets for those who wish to attend a Montreal Canadiens game on April 4 at the Molson Centre. The Bulldogs players and parents have been planning fundraising functions to help offset the player's tournament expenses, thus insuring that ALL team members will be able to participate. 50/50 cash draws are being held at Midget Brussels Novice Rep team played the first round of playoffs on the weekend and defeated Howick two games straight. Howick came to Brussels on Friday night but came up against a force they could not shut down, Chris Corbett scored five times and assisted twice, Matt White scored four goals; Christopher Jutzi and Cory Chapman each scored once and assisted on three earlier goals. Greg Bowers and Adam McClure each added 3 and 2 points by assisting on White's goals. Brussels goalie, Andrew McDonald let only one goal past him in the first period. The final score was 11 - 1. Saturday morning, Brussels Brussels and Seaforth Novice houseleague went back to back beginning Feb. 7. Only one goal scored in a tight first period, when with 30 seconds left, Chris Jutzi scored, assisted by Allysa Gowing and Andrew McDonald. In the second period Brussels scored three. Steven Ropp, assisted by Matt Souch, was first, with the second goal by Justin Mayne. Jutzi notched the third. The third period was back to back shoot out starting with Seaforth's Scott Sommerville scoring at 19:05. Jutzi scored another for Brussels as did Mayne for three and McDonald with one. Seaforth came back with two more by Michael Curtis and Joe games and a very successful Valentine's Pancake Breakfast was held this past Sunday at the Blyth Memorial Hall. Other fundraising efforts are being planned but their biggest event will be the 'Bonjour Montreal' benefit hockey game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Blyth and District Community Centre. Although final preparations, including the teams involved, were still being finalized at press time. This is sure to be an entertaining and lively FUNraiser. Bulldogs' coach Doug Chamney has solicited the support of various teams and organizations for donations of merchandise which the Bulldogs will be selling tickets on. With donations arriving daily a final list is far from complete but will include contributions from the Knights, Blackhawks, Oilers, Devils, Stars, Canadiens, Blue Jays, Bauer, Rawlings, Canadian Hockey Association, CHL and Mike Watt. They include autographed photos, autographed pucks, t-shirts, hats, equipment, hockey cards, to name a few items. The merchandise, as well as tickets, will be displayed at the game on Feb. 28 as well as fundraisers in March with the final prize drawing to take place on March 2 at the Blyth Lions Novice tournament. Would you like to own a piece of hockey history? The Bulldogs have acquired some prestigious hockey collectibles which they will be auctioning during the benefit game intermission. Several items will be sold to the highest bidder and will include a team autographed London Knights' game stick. The Knights are one of the hottest teams in the Continued on page 10 travelled to Howick and managed to keep them from scoring at all while still maintaining the 11 goals they scored the night before. McClure was the player to watch for — he scored four goals, and assisted on one. White scored a hattrick and assisted on two of McClure's goals. Corbett also added a hattrick and assisted on one goal. Chapman scored one goal and assisted on two of Corbett's goals. Jutzi assisted on four goals and Greg Bowers assisted on three goals. The final score was 11 - 0. The Novices will meet up with either Drayton or Mildmay for the next round of playoffs. Come out Friday nights at 6:30 to watch excellent skating, passing and defensive moves in live action play. Rapson. Feb. 14, the return to Brussels by Seaforth proved to be a tightly played game. At 8:52 Brussels got on the board first, when Mayne scored with a great pass from Scott Phillips. Seaforth answers back with a goal from Rapson at 3:42. Then just less than a minute and a half later Jordy Campbell assists Jutzi scoring the last of the first period. There were no goals scored during the second period with outstanding goaltending by Brussels' Evan Wilkinson and Seaforth's Josh Nurse. In the third Jutzi scored a quick goal assisted by Gowing.
