Trousseau still part of wedding
Has today's bride-to-be given up
dreams of pampering herself with a
luxurious trousseau during these
recessionary times?
Certainly not! Just as the large
wedding is as popular as ever,
packing a suitcase filled with a new
lingerie wardrobe remains a bridal
tradition. In fact, the average bride
spends nearly $1,000 building her
honeymoon trousseau, according to
a recent Brides magazine survey.
Clearly, women are not willing to
sacrifice their romantic fantasies
when it comes to this once-in-a-
lifetime event.
Brides can take heart, though:
The varied styles and fabrics of
todays lingerie make it easier than
ever to select a trousseau that will
take them far beyond the
honeymoon.
To help, here's some tips on
current lingerie styles and how to
care for them:
• "Ready-to-wear" lingerie
appeals to todays fashion-forward
bride. Lacy bustiers create
beguiling silhouettes when paired
with jeans or pants; silky
camisoles easily replace the
traditional blouse underneath a
smart suit; and the silk chemise
'takes for a chic evening look
when worn alone or under a

illegal. The electric blue, electric
purple, electric green...they think it
does something for them. But if
somebody's talking to them, they're
going to focus on the eyeliner or
shadow, not the colour of their
eyes." People with blue eyes think
they should use blue eye shadow to
bring out the colour of the eyes,
added Mondesire. "You use
complementary colours to bring out
the color of eyes, brown for blue
eyes."
If people have naturally dark
circles under their eyes, Celiberti
said they should avoid using eye
liner under their eyes and very little
mascara on the bottom eyelashes.
She also said people should use
only a little mascara because it will
clump. Mondesire said brides who
want to have makeup applied
professionally for their wedding
should plan ahead. Makeup artists

so the bride will know what look

day.
jacket.
• Some lingelie fashions continue
to take their cue from menswear.
Boxer shorts and oversized shirts
with feminine touches like floral
prints and jewel-tone colours are
timeless favourites that are
comfortable and fun to wear.
• Important on your first night
together as Mr. and Mrs., the
honeymoon peignoir can add
romance for anniversaries to
come. A full-length gown
embellished with lace and
accompanied by a co-ordinating
robe is as popular as ever,
particularly in luxurious fabrics
like silk. Brides needn't shy away
from silk; while delicate, many
silks now are washable.
To keep the peignoir a treasured
part of your life for years to come,
launder in the gentle cycle, or in a
basin of cool water. When drying,
hang on a padded hanger — a wire
one can cause permanent rust
stains — and never put silk in the
dryer, since it can disintegrate.
• For the modern romantic, sexy
teddies, corslets and the new
bodysuits or bliody stockings made
from stretch lace are enticing
options. This lightweight fabric
retains its shape nicely, providing
for a better fit and longer garment
life. Its also safe and convenient
married later in life. Most couples
already have necessary items like
dishes, silverware, cups, pots and
pans. Consequently, engagement,
shower and wedding gifts have
evolved from the mundane to the
extraordinary.
According to Bride's All New
Book of Etiquette, by the authors of
Bride's Magazine, identifying the
interests and passions of your
engaged friend or relative makes
gift giving easier and more fun.
According to the authors, if one of
your favorite memories of being
with the couple is a night when you
all stayed up till 3 a.m. eating pizza
and watching suspense films, then
the perfect gifts could be a pizza-
making kit and a collection of
Alfred Hitchcock movies!
Many couples are making gift
to wash spandex and other fine
fabrics in the gentle cycle. Also,
use an all-fabric bleach like
Snowy on spandex, rather than
chlorine bleach, which breaks
down fibers and causes
discoloration.
• Empire waist nightgowns
trimmed with lavish laces or
adorned with beads and faux
pearls conjure up visions of old-
fashioned romance. If the beads
are sewn, not glued, onto a
washable fabric, the garment can
be hand-washed in cool water. If
the beading is glued, take it to a
reputable dry cleaner and ask that
a net bag be used and that the
garment be tested before cleaning.
• No longer limited to the
traditional ankle beads and pearls,
todays bridal hosiery features all-
over patterns — lace, dots, ribbing
— that flatter the leg.
After the wedding, these versatile
styles are often a perfect
complement to other outfits in
your wardrobe.
To help hosiery last longer, place
in a mesh lingerie bag and wash in
the gentle cycle, or by hand in
cool water. Be careful, though;
white nylons can pick up colour
from other items in the wash, so
launder separately.
choosing easier for their loved ones
by registering in stores that cater to
their unique tastes. For example,
craft stores, computer stores,
hardware stores and sporting goods
stores are some places you might
not think to shop for wedding
presents. But choosing presents that
fit the couple's lifestyle makes your
gift that much more meaningful.
Don't let the constraints of
traditional gift-giving hold you
back from buying a huge cooler for
a couple that you know loves to
throw parties. Or maybe give a gas
grill with matching grill mitts and
utensils for a couple that loves
grilled Cajun food.
Presents like these make
spending time with your newly
married friends even more fun than
it was before they got married!
