Township namedforfuture prime minister of England
Named for Charles, the second
Earl of Grey, who eventually became
prime minister of England. Grey
Twp. was part of Crown Land called
Queen's Bush. Lots were officially
put up for sale in 1854.
Grey became a separate munici
pality in 1856.
Jamestown
The first structure to mark the
location of Jamestown was a frame
inn at the juncture of the Maitland
River and Seaforth-Wroxeter trail.
County Rd. I2 (Brussels Line).
The inn. built by Thomas J.
Moorehouse burned in 1864.
The name of the community
apparently was derived for a news
correspondent of The Huron
Expositor between 1855 and I860,
James Aitcheson. There were also
numerous Jameses who lived in the
area.
The post office was established in
1893 with James Lynn, then J.J.

History of J.L. McCutcheon Motors Ltd., Brussels
JT n 1949, under the ownership of George E. McCutcheon, a direct franchise with General Motors of Canada, as a dealer for Chev-Olds
K in Brussels and area was granted. In 1952 the present building of McCutcheon Motors Ltd. was built, but the business continued
JL under the name of Riverside Motors.
In July of 1958, McCutcheon Motors Limited was incorporated under the laws of Ontario, as a private limited company with George E.
McCutcheon - President, John L. McCutcheon - Vice President and Barbara J. McCutcheon - Secretary.
The former Massey Ferguson building was obtained in 1967 from Elmer Somers and is now the new truck lot.
The company changed directors in January of 1970 and John L. McCutcheon became President, George E. McCutcheon - Vice President g
and Esther McCutcheon - Secretary. The company operated under this directorship with the assistance of a numberof faithful senior I
employees, Mabel Willis (1951), Mel McArter (1955), Robert Richmond (1958), Gerald McCauley (1962), Donald Bray (1963) and John H
Exel (1973).
On August 1/76 the sales and service operation of McCutcheon Motors Limited was sold to a new company and registered as J.L.
McCutcheon Motors Ltd., August 9/76 the company directors were John L. McCutcheon - President, Robert Richmond - Vice President,
and Esther McCutcheon - Secretary.
The dealership expanded to the west side of Tumberry Street in December 1979, with the purchase of the previously owned Bridge Motors
building. This shop is used for auto body and used car reconditioning, plus a truck sales lot.
In 1988, property formerly known as East Huron Produce was purchased from Lumsden Bros, and is now the used car lot.
In December of 1988, a transfer of shares, with the sale of land, buildings and equipment was made from John L. and Esther McCutcheon
to Robert Richmond and John Exel, who became President and Vice President of the company.
In 1994, Irene Richmond became a shareholder of J.L. McCutcheon Motors and assumed the position of Human Relations Officer.
As of December 1999 there are fourteen employees with 193 years of combined service and experience with J.L. McCutcheon Motors Ltd.
